Suggestion For Sights On 1911

#1

Post by carlson1 »

Two of my 1911's (STI and S&W) have black on black sights. That drives me nuts. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe changing out just the front with a night sight? If you would give me a link to where you purchased yours and what you like?
Thanks

I like the Novak night sights as well. They came stock on my Eclipse and my Champion.

I have the XS big dot sights on my Springfield Trophy Match. My club shoots indoors at night in low light so the big' ol white dot on the front sight really helps.

I am watching this one too. My SA A1 has adjustables on it & I am going to give them a chance but think I may want to change them since this a daily carry weapon. The Novaks are what I had in mind though.

Yup,

Got the "big dot" on my carry gun too. Its great out to 15 yds., beyond that... don't look for any "fine work", it simply begins to cover the target too much.

Close up, even when "point shooting", you just can't miss it. At night, the residual light from a flashlight (especially Harries technique) will really make it stand out.

Its not for your target gun, I want to make that clear!

The fiber optic front sights are great for target or game guns but I would not put one on a defensive weapon. I've seen that little fiber optic piece fly off too many times.

I've got Meprolights on my Tactical Ultra II - they're bright as no tomorrow, and the gun is almost two years old - only a week old to me though

I don't want to oversimplify things, but if you already have a good, solid set of black steel sights, a little black or orange epoxy paint on the front sight ramp can make all the difference. Krylon at Walmart is cheap and durable.

Im sorry for being a dummy on what brands make what, but what is SA A1? I have a 1911 clone made by STAR ARMS, model BM and am looking for the same kinda sights that i can see in the night. I would like to have an expensive gun like a kimber but I love this gun, I love the way it shoots and the size of it. Later I will get a better arm. for now it works.

Nothing wrong with your question Scooter. SA is a Springfield Armory. The A1 is the model. Springfield makes a good 1911. Smith and Wesson makes a 1911. Kimber makes a good 1911. I think Colt is the best in my opinion, but you have to add the extra's you want to most Colts. Personally I do not like anything less than the Commander length which is around 4 inches. I have had bad experiences with the shorter barrels. Good luck in getting what you want. Novak is probably the best Night Sight for the 1911. Remember on most of the 1911 they slide will have to be cut to for the sights to fit.
