carry a PLR16

#1

Post by lunchbox »

as some of you know i work at a gun store. I have a customer that owns a PLR 16 (along with many many other guns)
and has been putting off getting his CHL but says if i can get a harness or sling that will allow him to carry the PLR16 under his blazer.

can anyone foresee a problem with this i should advise him of

mind you he is not large but average size and eccentric

Yes, since it may be difficult to keep his duster closed, cut the bottom out of the pocket on the same side the pistol is slung on. So he can maintain control over it.. Same as a pistol gripped shotgun.

Technically, .223 is a smaller caliber than the .32 minimum even though vastly more powerful? So, IMO, he would not be able to use the PLR to take his shooting qualification.

You can get slings to do what he wants but I hope his request isn't serious. I have used my PLR for a truck gun or when I check out noises outside. But it is totally impractical for on person concealed carry.

Sounds like maybe he is a little more than eccentric to me. We are not USSS or Neo from the Matirx. While it may be legal, it would not be comfortable. I carried a MAC-11 on a detail one time, and the size and weight are not comfortable. Try to talk him into something that is reasonable, and if not, then IMO try to talk him OUT of getting his CHL!

will the qualifying wont be a problem as i said he has a number of guns at his disposal
this guy rely would get his suit Tailored to accommodate the sizable weapon.
i tried to talk him out of it but he doesnt want to carry anything else and he has nice stuff (para H&K etc etc)

what about encounters with LEO do you think he would have issues even though it is legal

The .32 caliber is the minimum for qualifying with. You can carry whatever you want.

Eccentric? That's not what I'd generally call someone who wants to pack around a .223REM pistol.

I hope a full length duster fits into your style of dress!

OTOH, I can't imagine someone doing this more than once or twice, so knock yourself out!

IMO, yes. :biggrinjester:

I can tell you as someone who carried an Ingram MAC-10 concealed on a special security detail for 14 hours one time, it is not something you want to do if you don't have to. Stick to a normal size pistol.

I had a PLR and although it was fairly reliable with the 10 round mag I had major jamming issues with the standard AR mags.. that being said I could not imagine myself packing that thing even under my biggest coat!
