Handgun Review *Kel-Tec P3AT*

Post by DMoses »

I purchased this gun on Sunday and was chomping at the bit to get to the range.

First off let me say that this gun has one hell of a "BITE"! The recoil was very surprising and I'm not exaggerating when I say that the recoil was harder on my hand than my Wilson Combat Professional .45. I took both pistols and fired 43 rounds of .380 and 100 rounds of .45.

Ammo used in the test was- Wolf 91 gr. FMJ

I had NOT 1 failure during the entire shoot. I have no prior exp. with the Wolf brand but was happy with the outcome. I fired 31 rounds just to see how the pistol would handle, fully expecting some kind of problem from a $240.00 pistol. As I said before, not 1 problem!

For the accuracy test I fired 6 rounds @ 3 yards and 6 rounds @ 7 yards. I'll let the target pics speak for themselves. I'm sure with a bit more practice this gun is capable of much tighter groups but for a BUG it performs very well!

I'm looking forward to recieving my Hogue slip-on grip as well as the magazine finger extension. I think this will greatly improve the overall feel of the gun since in it's out-of-the-box condition its somewhat difficult to get a comfortable grip.

Hello! Good to hear you had a good experience with the Kel-Tec. People talk about having problems with them, but I find it depends on the ammo used. My P3AT doesn't like Winchester ammo, but loves the Sellier & Bellot. I have also fired 100 rounds of Speer Gold Dot hollow-points through it w/out a hitch. Seems to be a good Carry round.

I have had only one issue with mine. I added the single round mag extension, and find that when I grip the gun tight enough to take the BITE, I tend to pull on the mag. This caused an occasional FTF, because the mag shifted slightly. I have since removed the extension. It's only one round, and as a BUG...well...I have a second mag.

Got Pics of yours?
