Well, thanks goes out to Mr. Cotton for teaching a wonderful and very informative class. I really enjoyed the in depth legal aspects of the course and his seminar. It is top notch! Just to put a cherry on top, I went ahead and over nighted my app to Austin so it arrives there tomorrow. It seemed prudent since I also bought myself an AR-15 the day after election day.

Unfortunately you wasted your money; we sent ours in back in October and it's not the speed at which it gets there that makes any difference. It's the background checks that are holding everything up. They're swamped since well before the election, and Ike just made it worse. Glad the class was top notch though, ours was pretty good too.

Nah, didn't do it for any expediency. Did for more of tracking purposes.

You must have some other hold ups. I have seen people on here that have gotten theirs already and submitted the packet after you.

Nope, I called and they said "we're still waiting on a background check."

What's stupid is my NICS check goes through instantly with a "proceed" every time. We've bought about 14 guns in the last few months and every last one goes through instantly. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason either - I've seen others that take 7 months + and some get theirs in 60 days.

Go figure. I'm sure I'll be one of those. I bought two guns in the last month or two and had a day delay on each one.

A NICS check is nothing like the background checks for the CHL. IIRC, every place you've lived or worked in requires a check in person from a field officer. If any of those locations do not have a DPS office, then an officer must be sent to that county to run the checks with the county sheriff's office. In addition, there's the federal background check with the FBI.
