Just registered for this board. Currently I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and have a Georgia Firearms License (similar to your CHL however here open carry is allowed). I will be starting a new job in a week and am told I will probably be relocated to the DFW area within a year. No problem with that as I lived in Austin for 7 years and actually am looking forward to going back to Texas.
Background includes 11 years as an LEO in the Pacific Northwest as well as 5 years in the military. I have since gone on to the "corporate world" however still am a advocate for 2nd Amendment rights. Hoping to start to become familiar with the Texas laws around carrying concealed, and am aware that Texas requires a training class before application (Georgia does not) as well as residency for 6 months before you can apply. Looking forward to learned and hopefully soon being back in Texas!

Welcome to the forum Slowrain, and eventually back to Texas!
If Georgia allows you to convert your GFL to a non-resident concealed permit, then you should be able to carry here until such time as you can get a Texas CHL.
Enjoy the forum; there is a lot of good information and a ton of great folks here!!

Welcome to the forum and to Texas when you get here. Texas no longer has a 6 month residency requirement. "Intent" is sufficient so you can apply as soon as you move here. Actually, you can get a Texas CHL as a non-resident, but you'd have to come to Texas to take the course.

Excellent regarding the apparent change to the 6 month requirement! Might have to see if I can wangle a course in on a visit. I have family all over the DFW and some in the Austin area. Looking forward to it!
