Welcome to the forum from another Keith.
Enjoy the information available here. We have a lot of very informed and knowledgeable members and have some very good discussions and learning sessions that will help you be even more prepared once your CHL arrives in the mail.
I hope your wait is short!!

Now that's what I call dedication.
My wife and I were born in Chicago. We moved here a while back.

Yes I received it in July. Im training myself to carry 24/7. As ive learned expect it when you least expect it. My wife finally quit asking do u have it. She assumes I do. Funny because I use a shoulder holster,Smart Carry Holster,OWB blackhawk holster. She never knows were its located. She allways walks on the opposite side of were it is. Im working on her but she is from a no gun family. Not anti gun just never owned. She has 2 brothers that are Marines and only one of them still owns a handgun. My father grew up on a farm in Michigan. His father my grandfather had a rifle in every room. My dad would shoot all day 1000 rounds and do his own reloading when he was a kid. Different time in the world.

Welcome Keith! What part of the Chicago area are you from? I lived in the Aurora-Naperville area for 8 years. You'll certainly enjoy the winters here.

The summers are another story for another time.

I grew up on the southside but the last 5 years was in Minooka IL. Had a son and it was getting bad. Told the wife its time to go. I am a NRA member and looking at joining the Texas version (sorry forgot the name). Some of my best memories with my son have been this year with us going to Elm Fork range and the Bullet trap indoor range. In Illinois my son was not allowed to shoot at a indoor range. That was never possible until we moved here. I love this new freedom. Even with that I can promise all the members that my son and I have the most respect for any gun. We treat them correctly. My 11 year old son would blow away the average adult when it comes to gun safety. I know it doesnt really matter to the average person here but I realize that im the yankee and dont want to make the CHL license ever a neg issue in my house with the anti-gunners and news media.

The
Texas State Rifle Association.
This organization gets things done for Texans. They have pushed every measure from the CHL law to Castle Doctrine and the Motorist Protection Act.
I lived my first 27 years at various locations within a mile and a half of Comiskey Park.

Welcome to Texas and Texas Shooting! Glad you found your way here where you have the ability to teach your family what it means to have a gun and be able to carry it, and use it as you will - especially to protect them. Enjoy your stay and come here often - you will learn a ton - I know I have in the short time I have been here.
Hooyah!

Welcome to North Texas Keith.
I don't know too many firefighters, but you are the first that I've heard of that carries. The ones I do know say they'll leave that to the police. Are there many other firefighters that carry?

Although I am Navy (not civilian), I are(gggh) a firefighter! does that count? But I guess, since I don't have my plastic, it doesn't, not really! Aw shucks!
