CHL at shooting range?

Before my CHL, I would always carrying my guns to the range in a range bag. But since my CHL, I would now have one on me in my IWB. Can I unholster my concealed gun at the range and practice with it and then reholster, or do I need to bring it in the range bag and then reholster it in the car or in a private area to my IWB. Sorry if this is a newbie question.

Each range has their own policy. Ask & they will tell you.
Ours is an outdoor range & we allow WAY more than most indoor ranges.

OIC, Well this goes out to all the DFW people, does anyone know the guideline at the Winchester Shooting Gallery in FT Worth? If not I will give them a call.

Most of the ranges in the DFW area have a policy about the gun being unloaded & cased. I went to Winchester over on Lancaster & I-820 last week and I was carrying. I was a spur of the moment thing to rent a gun that was thinking of buying. Anyway I had no gear with me (ie range bag, eyes, hears), I just unloaded the gun in the car and put the rounds in my pocket (wheelgun). When I was rentlng the weapon to try, I informed the range folks I was a CHLer, showed my license & carrying a unoaded weapon in my holster. They thanked me for informing & said no problem, off I went to shoot first a Glock 30 SF and then a SA XD 45 Compact.

Most places I've been to, the "unloaded and in the bag" bit does not apply to CHLs.

I always conceal carry into and out of a range. You never know what's outside waiting on you.

I have spoken to a personnel who work in the range section (I don't want to name this person because I forgot to ask for his permission to quote him) and he said that a CHL can have a concealed gun on them with at the range, as long as they don't see you with it. That's common sense of course.
In regard to using the concealed gun for practice at the range, the same statement apply. As long as they don't see you holding it per say, they won't require you to unloaded and stored it. He said that their policy is pretty lay back, as long as you are mature and courteous.
The gentleman I talk to was very professional, when I ask him those CHL questions. They have always been polite and professional and when my wife and I gone there.

Just got back from WSG and on the way out, I asked the same question and got the same answer. He must have remembered you because he asked me if I had called in earlier. So as far as WSG is concerned you can conceal carry.

you want to sneak a gun into the gun range?
Remind me of the time at the gun range I pulled out my knife to take down targets (darn brass tacks) and the guy next to me said "Can we have a knife here?"

that is kind of funny when you think of it that way. But on a side note, we can't carry into a gun shows because of insurance, go figure. I guess Cabela and Bass Pro have better ins. carriers then the gun show vendors.

I can :) It's not really fair though...I think CHL's need more leeway...or less restrictions I guess as to where they can carry.
I think sporting venues and public businesses. I think they should get rid of 30.06 all together. Don't ask don't tell sorta thing.
I digress...back on topic.
Most ranges prohibit practicing from the holster. However, there are things you can do at home with snap caps (or an empty chamber with the right firearm) to practices this. Dry fire drills are great practice.

Ranges that offer IDPA/USPSA style matches allow CHLer to carry. There is a place called safe area, a concrete kind of a box that you go there and pack/unpack your CC firearm. Of course, on those ranges, there are "bays" where you can practice defensive shooting, including drawing from holster.
Dallas Pistol Club is such a range.

Also, just few miles north of DPC, Elm Fork Shooting range:
http://www.elmfork.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; do offer tactical bay where you can draw and shoot.
