AZ CWP process

I just received my Az CWP permit and I have to say it was a very simple process. I called Az DPS(602-256-6280) and requested an application which I received 3 days later. I am prior service military so all I had to do was send a copy of my DD214 showing an honorable discharge and that was enough to prove firearms competency vs taking an NRA approved firearms course. I also sent my fingerprint cards(cost 20$ for 2 cards), my completed application, and a money order for 60 dollars for the background check. Fifty five days later I received my Az concealed weapons permit in the mail. What a great feeling! I plan to take a Tx ccw class as well just so I can be educated on the finer points of Tx law. For those of you who can't afford a Texas ccw or have other issues disqualifying you for a Tx ccw I recommend looking into an Az cwp.

Thanks for the report. I'll probably go ahead and get an AZ permit early next year to add to my Texas permit.

Not because I plan on traveling to Nevada or can't afford a TX permit, but because I'm up for my first renewal at the end of next year. If I have an AZ permit in hand, I won't sweat so much over when my new Texas CHL is going to arrive.

That and an extra license in case I ever lose my wallet would be nice.

I got my AZ CWP back in February. It sure is a LOT easier and cheaper than getting a TX CHL. I sure would like to see TX streamline the requirements like AZ has.

Seems to be a good alternative to the tx process. Reciprocity in states not covered by tx too. Much cheaper - think I'll save $80 and go through az.

They need the money too....lots of 'mouths to feed' that don't belong there.

I might "supplement" my TX license, but I don't want to give up the benefit of the TX license allowing me to pick up my niece at her high school with the Federal Gun Free School Zone Act exemption for licenses issued in the State where the school zone is located, which another State's license does not cover.., so it isn't really an "alternative" since it restricts my movements more than a Texas license does.

I drop off and pick up my niece at the high school, and prefer to be legally armed when I do.
