I'm new to the forum. I've been visiting here for the last year or so though and learning a lot.
I took my CHL class from Tom Estep at the Arms Room in the SE/Houston (League City) area about a month and a half ago. Tom is great. I've been in background review for about a week less than that.
I'm eager to get out there and carry. I've been practicing carrying around the house and buying holsters for various things for about a year now.
I have a PM9 in a kydex PJholster that seems like it will be a great summer carry. I also have a Crossbreed Minituck for that gun which is pretty comfortable but needs a modification to get the pistol to ride higher above the belt. There's not enough room for my fingers between the grip and the belt in the highest position. There's barely enough leather left at the bottom of the holster to add another set of holes, but I think I can make it work. Not sure if i should buy a punch and do it right or see about drilling it out or using some other makeshift tool that I already have around. I just ordered a Alabama Holster pocket holster for it.
I picked up a CompTac C-Tac holster for my govt sized 1911. It works alright but the grip tends to show a little more than i'd like. It's not the holster necessarily - my frame and dress are contributors also. I'm 5'-11" and 165 and wear T-shirts and fairly well fitted stuff. Not skinny jeans or tight t-shirts, but I have to be picky about what I wear if I try to cary this pistol. The C-Tac is not quite as stable as the Supertuck and the pistol is able to shift a bit and is reliant on the belt to hold it against the body, so an MTAC or Supertuck may work better for me also.
I also have an M&P40c and a Tucker Gunleather - "The Answer" for it. The Tucker is pretty thick and doesn't bend around the body quite like the Supertuck does, so I have less choices about where I can put it on my slender frame. I have to wear it at about 4:30 to 5:00 to make it comfortable. However, I prefer to wear my other pistols a little further forward (4:00 roughly) so that the grip is a little more concealed. So, I am not completely happy with this setup. At 4:30 to 5:00, the pistol is almost inaccessible in a car type situation.
I'm tempted to add some kind of holster to the car anyway. I've rambled on too long already.
Great forum with good folks. Glad to be here. Thanks to Charles Cotton for all you do for the rights of Texans!
Feel free to chime in with any advice.
Michael

I would have never thought of that, but sounds quite reasonable!george wrote:A fired shell casing makes an expedient leather punch.

Welcome to the forum xb12s. At 5'11" and a buck 65 I can see where that grip might stick out a bit. You need to get some BBQ in you.

Yeah, I remember when I was in my twenty's. Eat whatever you want and as much as you want. Back then I could really do some damage to a buffet. These days the buffet does more damage to me.xb12s wrote:LOL. Long tall Texan? Except not that tall really. I do enjoy eating. I just have a gifted metabolism.
Although, you're right, it could be worse. My little brother stands about 6'3" and a buck 65. When he works out he sometimes bulks up to a buck 75. I'm a hair over 6' and I'm trying to keep it between 195-200, but right now I'm 5 pounds out of range.
