New to CHL not new to firearms

#1

Post by Hawk99 »

Hi,
Been lurking for awhile here and have learned much. Can sit for hours reading posts, not much to see on TV. :???: Thanks to all that participate in this forum. Without each of you, we would not know or have been exposed to so many situations that I believe to be vital to our proper response to so many life altering situations.

My status:
Been armed since 7 years old in 1948, oops told my age. Retired in 2011 from three careers; Military 26 years, Education 28 years, contractor 12 years. Hunted and fished from birth to about 25 years old. Shot competition from mid 60's to late 80s. Due to the current environment, I decided it was time to carry. Received plastic Monday Nov 26. Wally walk same day, seems comfortable enough. I am mostly a lurker and enjoy all comments. Probably will not post much, as my opinion shows up pretty quickly in most threads, so my two cents is redundant. My carry pieces are as follows: Been buying guns for a while. Top down, Ballester/Molina 45, mfg 1947; Modelo Super 9mm largo mfg 1962; Ruger P89 9mm; Kel Tec PF9; and AMT Backup. My guns are kept in great shape as I am a hobby gunsmith. Don't own high power rifles or competition guns as they were all furnished by the military when shooting competition. Have traded and sold guns all my life and regret everyone that I let go. Would like to get back to shooting some matches. They have changed greatly since my time. Hobby now is machining. I have a complete manual machine shop which I spend a lot of time in.

Look forward to reading and learning. :clapping:

Welcome to the forum Frank/Hawk99.

That is a nice looking collection you have there. I'm sure we also look forward your contributions to the forum. The more the merrier and the more points of view.

I work with veterans and have family and friends that are veterans (my wife's grandfather is a decorated WWII vet my grandfather was in Korea before my mother was born close to 25% of my coworkers are Vietnam or desert storm vets my uncle is a desert storm and Iraqi freedom vet) I personally was never able to join (3 knee surgeries in high school and currently in need of a forth) so I always try to thank every veteran I meet for doing something I was never able to even attempt, not to mention several guys I went to high school with have made the ultimate sacrifice during the first couple years of the combat in Iraq.

Packa45,

Thanks is appreciated. I served in an era where we were spit on when we returned. I joined the Texas National Guard in Aug 1961, activated for 1 year for Berlin crisis in Oct 61, served 6 years NG,then joined Active Army in 68 and went to flight school, served in Vietnam til 70, got out in 77, then back to TXNG and retired in 89 as Warrant Officer. Ended up 13 years active and 13 years NG. Not your average service career. The medical and monthly check is nice though. I have several friends on the Vietnam wall.

Thanks again,

Frank
