What's the deal with your car, and parking lot? Can you, or can you not, safely store your gun in your car?
(Following the do not advertise mantra)

If the company has no policy, why do you even need to ask the question?

Extension of domicile, and they don't own the property. I'm not taking it in the office, or office building. Really, where are the boundaries.
Thanks for the informative post, very conducive.

You're welcome. Your question is still confusing. You ask about the legality of having a gun in a car in a parking lot not owned by a company that doesn't have a policy regarding having weapons in a car in a parking lot they don't own. What am I supposed to answer?
Do you have a CHL? If not, that would have been important information to include in the question.

The law answers the question. An employer cannot restrict you from having a gun in your car in the parking lot, CHL or no CHL. If they have such a rule in the handbook, it is out of date and meaningless. If there is no rule, then once again, the law answers the question.

Oh, I understand that. What I don't understand is why the OP is even asking the question given the circumstances laid out unless he/she does not have a CHL and wasn't aware of the Parking Lot Law/SB321.

Safely? Sure. I have been doing it for years, and none of the ammo ever cooked off, even in the Texas heat.

Remember also, Texas is a "at will" state. A company can fire you for any reason or no reason at all. If you are going to carry a firearm in your car then make sure it is out of sight and do not say a word about it.

I maybe wrong but they cannot fire you for keeping in your vehicle unless they fall under one of the exempt places. My employer HAD to re-write the directives when this became law. We still can't carry in building, company owned vehicles, etc.. but we CAN keep in our privately owned secured vehicles on their parking lot. Unless they do vehicle searches, how are they going to know anyway?

You are right they cannot fire you if you have a CHL and keep a gun in your vehicle. They can fire you for no reason at all too, you could not like mexican food and they could fire you for it. Im just saying in Texas a employer does NOT need a reason to fire someone.
I would not let a employer search my truck anyway, they are not LEOs and do not have a warrant.

It really isn't quite that simple.

Sometimes it is. Not always and you can't be stupid about it, but it can be that simple.

It is, really...they can fire you for anything or nothing. The reasons for the fire only come into play when they want to deny you unemployment benefits...company policies are written as to how much they want to deal with in this regard, but the law doesn't dictate it to them.
