Kimber UC 11 or the CDP 11?
As you know, I shot my son's UC (he bought it used). It's abt 4-yrs-old. Sweet shooter! MUCH easier to conceal, I must agree! Even tried the Milt Parks VM2. Nice holster but the loops would be unused and the clips were WAY tough! Plus, waiting 3 months? Probably not.
Back to my question! Would the Kimber CDP 11 be worth the extra money (in your opinions, of course)?
Thanks...in advance!

What? A man with no opinion? Just yankin' your chain, txinvestigator. Couldn't resist.
I'm thinkin' that the ramped barrel of the CDP would be a nice touch. However, with the UC2, "the slide has the longest cycle time..." They may be so close that it'd be "six of one...and a half-dozen of the other."
Let's put it this way. IF they were the same price and you had your choice....

I don't think you will be able to notice the difference in cycle time. Especiall on the 2nd shot & after. Ramped barrel? I believe YES. I carry the Pro CDP. Commander. I will not address cosmedics. They are personal preference. I really like the checkered front strap. Sweaty hands (and I have them in the summer) it really helps. That is the only thing I miss on Springer A1 I have. Also I think I would want the checkering on that small grip & 24 oz package for the recoil control. The ambi safety is very important if you train w/ both hands. It really does get as natural to thumb it w/ your left hand as right. At the same price I would go w/ the CDP every time. If you are going to shoot it really often & plan to KEEP IT, not sell it as do some. Then decide how long you will own it. 10 yr?? Then divide the difference in cost by the 10 & decide if you will pay that much more a yr for the different gun. If the difference is 200.00 initial $'s. (and I doubt that) That is 20.00 a yr. Shooting only once a month that is less than $2.00 a month. for what I carry "ALL DAY" "EVERY DAY". If you divide it by days carried instead of times shooting then you will be talking about pennies. I tell people this & suddenly it becomes evident why some quit carrying or do it spasmodically. Above applies to holsters, belts, mag carriers... This is no place to skimp & be uncomfortably irritated. Yes carrying is not supposed to be comfortable but comforting. Still no need to be uncomfortably irritated, gouged, & poked. It is too easy to be reasonably comfortable at worst & totally at best. Glad you tried th VMll. I did not think it would work for a lady. Try several & you will finally find one you like. Good searching.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

I have the ultra carry II. I MUCH higher recommend the CDP. I believe the new ones have internal extractors, the checkered front strap, and de-horned edges, and night sights all make it a better choice for carry. Both guns are great and I love my UCII and got it on a trade.
*IF* I could afford either pistol, I would go with a Ultra CDP.

Thanks, so MUCH, folks! You've given me what I really was thinkin' I'd hear, to be honest.
Longtooth, I especially appreciate your well thought-out comments! That's the sort of stuff that really tends to make sense when you're trying to make a pretty big decision like this one.
Thanks to gigag04, too. You seem to have a grasp of things. At least you have good taste in pistols, huh?!
I've been squirrelin' back cash at every opportunity for the past year in order to 'afford' a Kimber. So, that MIGHT mean that we can't REALLY afford it after all, huh? The way I look at it, however, my life (or my family or friends' lives)...they are ALL worth the investment as far as I'm conserned.
So, I really appreciate your input on this!
Now! Does anyone know of a dealer or FFL in the Tomball or NW Houston area (or vacinity) that can get good PRICES on two of these CDP's? I've talked it over with my shootin' buddy and we agree that the CDP really IS the way to go. So, who ever sells ME one...will be sellin' HER one, too!

Thank you PPM. God did not grant me that understanding overnight but over time.

PPM,
CDP series are really nice, and in some ways txinvestigator is correct, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want the melt job, which smooths out the sharp edges of the pistol; an ambi safety, which can be added on the basic UC; night sites; etc., then the CDP is what you want. I have the compact version, which has a 4 inch slide instead of the 3 inch. Most of it is personal preference. The CDP has a lot of "custom" features many persons have paid gunsmiths for.
The best thing for you to do is to go to a gun shop or to a gun show and look at both side by side. You'll probably get a better deal on the price of the weapon at a gun show too. Good luck.
