Post your CHL Shooting Test Target

#1

Post by RubenZ »

OK, Haven't seen this on the Forums yet and most probably didn't even keep their Target from their Shooting Portion of the CHL Test.

Here is mine. I think I did good. the flyer rounds in 7 and 8 ring were because the previous shot I shot before the range master gave the Command and I got nervous the next 3 shots thinking he would get mad at me LOL...

Anyways. Here is my Target. Don't mean to brag ;) but that Target there was all 50 rounds :) more than half probably made it through the same holes ;)

ok when did they go to the Green targets ?? the last time I shoot they where the Black with the head being a 5 points I think they where called TX-PT .

I like the newer one as they focus you on the Center of Mass more.

Both targets are some great shooting .

I'm not sure when the change occurred, but I think it was in January, 2007. At the CHL Instructor's School last August, they said the change from the TX-PT target back to the old B-27 was the result of the killing of a trooper. Apparently, they got the shooting on the dash camera and analysis of the tape showed the trooper was throwing his shots high over the BG's shoulders. They went back to the B-27 to lower the point of aim not only for CHL's, but for the troopers also.

The color does not matter. Any B27 will do.

Jan 1 of '06 was the change over.

Well I didn't have a camera and he didn't actually score the target but if that last pic was a 246 then I got at least a 246

We were told by our instructor that the targets were trashed after qualifying. Apparently it gives lawyers some info on you if you are ever involved in a situation where you have to discharge your weapon in a defensive posture.

I shot a 246. Three flyers (one of which was from the first magazine, 'cause I started out nervous and slapped the trigger  The other two flyers, a -1 and a -2, were at 15 yards).

TXI, there's a rumor flying around that if a prosecutor sees a CHL-holder's "perfect" score, he'll use it to claim you trained to kill, or ask why, if you're that good a shot, you didn't just shoot the gun out of his hand, or something else equally ridiculous.

I'm frankly not worried about it.

His reasoning was that if you barely qualified the lawyer might be able to use it and your instructor in some legal way to signify your training was just adequate. I wanted my target but they wouldn't give anybody theirs nor would they tell you what you scored...only if you passed or failed.

Fugetaboutit..."Little to the Left" problem???

I think you got him...

You know whats funny, is I don't even look at the rings when I qual anymore...Sure I'll put them a little lower on the new B-27's than when we were shooting the old CHL targets...

But for the most part, (since I believe scores are no longer sent to Austin) I just try to keep the group tight...If it sits up there higher in that 9 and 8 ring, I'm still fine with it...

That's still some good shooting in these pics!

BTW, and instructor question...

Does the State say you have to start the qualifier with the 3 yard plan???

I'd almost like to see it start at the 15 yard point and work your way in closer...Might make for some interesting results...

Just an early morning thought...

They burned all our targets, probably for legal reasons.

I was having fun with this one, shot my first glock on this target too. For my test I shot a group about a 1/3" larger, more centered, and one flier just outside the bullseye, with a Sig CPO P228.
