I just moved but my CHL needs to be renewed very soon
Should I change the address now? or can I renew with the new address? I have about 2 weeks before my CHL expires.

You're late renewing! You can't carry with an expired CHL, so I'd get the process going ASAP!
If you've locked up the new address, put that down on the application.

I'm not sure but I believe you have 30 days to change your address once you move. Considering you are within two weeks of renewal, you should be able to do both at once. I would submit your renewal online forthwith if I were you.
I can't remember if one can carry under their expired license if they have completed their renewal application and are waiting for it to be processes. I thought this was included in some recent legislation. You may want to explore that.

No. There is no grace period or extension for an expired CHL, even if your renewal application has been submitted. You must wait until you receive the CHL before you are allowed to carry a concealed handgun.

Yeah, as a TV anchors said about being shot at in a helicopter, I must be misremembering.

I wonder where we heard what we think we heard? Maybe something proposed that didn't pass?mojo84 wrote:RoyGBiv wrote:I recall something along those lines also.... but DPS web site says otherwise...mojo84 wrote:I'm not sure but I believe you have 30 days to change your address once you move. I'll do some checking in a bit. I thought it was in the bill that reduced the class time for new and did away with renewal class time.

IIRC you used to be able to carry on an expired license if you had submitted the paperwork on time, but it changed 3 years ago (the legislative session before this last one) ... As I said IIRC.
