Military Moving to Fort Hood, TX Questions on Updated Laws

#1

Post by OleWarSkuleAlum »

So I was stationed in Fort Bliss, TX for around 3 years and the Army moved me to Alabama for about 8 months. Anyways I'm headed back to Texas, Fort Hood more specifically, at the end of January. A few questions regarding the updated laws...

1. Is my current CHL now what's termed the LTC and allows me to both carry concealed and open? (I probably will never OC)

2. Just monitoring Killeen, Belton, Temple, Harker Heights, Georgetown, and Copperas Cove on texas3006.com it seems as if a TON of new 30.06 signs are going up probably since most are posting 30.07 to prohibit OC. Anyways in El Paso the only place I ever saw a 30.06 sign was at Time Warner Cable. In the past I would have been concerned with walking past a 30.06 sign whether valid or invalid (invalid meaning letters not 1 inch, contrasting colors, incorrect verbiage, etc.). As I understand it now if you walk a 30.06 sign it's only a class C misdemeanor with a fine not to exceed $200. Is this correct? If true this would lead alot of credence to just walking past signs that don't meet the standard with really no worry of punishment.

3. I'm tracking there are no added exclusions of places someone cannot carry even with a CHL correct?

Thanks for the help

1. Yes the CHL allows both concealed and open carry, even though the title of it changed from CHL to LTC.

2. That is correct, it's a class C misdemeanor unless you refuse to leave, then it's a class A misdemeanor. No one here will condone walking past a valid sign, which is also a violation of rule 4 of the forum rules.

3. Off limits places have not changed in the last 8 months you were gone. Campus carry goes into effect on August 1, later this year.
