In many states, you need a permit to buy a handgun, there's a waiting period, and each transfer is reported to the state. In those cases, if you're in a hurry, you have to go to an illegal source.

I haven't seen the movie, but this could be handled in two ways.

One way is just to have him score from an illegal source because 'that's just what people do'.

Another would be that he goes to the illegal source after finding out that in CA (for example) there is a 15 day waiting period for handguns, where this requirement is depicted as silly, unnecessary, unfair, or unjust.

He's not a gun owner per se. He's a grieving dad who's son was murdered. Would you want to kill the guy who got off with a traceable gun?
I understand the situation they're presenting. I can't say i would do much differently in all honesty, but i'm not wild about the public portrayal of that story presents gun owners. It seems that much of the movie is about the guns. It's not that i dont like gun movies, i love them, i'm just not wild about how this story seems just a hop and a skip away from you and I as legal gun owners. That's a short line to draw for most folks IMO.

I agree, but even people who are anti-gun would probably want to take out the bad guy in this situation. So in that sense, people may understand and not think all gun owners are nuts.

"The End"

That would make a great movie!!! They could both star in it...I hope they spend 300 million making it and its 3 hours long... ;-)

At least they would know it would be stupid to make a sequel...

"The End 2" would probably not do so well...Kinda repetitious, redundant...

The excessive concern of being politically correct (PC) has over shadowed common sense. I suspect that in both movies the good guy prevails over the bad guy and everyone walks out happy that good won over evil. I highly doubt that CHL holders will enter into the minds of the viewing audience unless the viewer is a CHL holder.

I guess with all the worry about being PC , a new Dirty Harry movie would be out of the question.

Not that it matters, but I don't think she was in that movie (Thinking of Tatum O'Neill?), :???:
I mentioned some really good movies she was in in an earlier post. Not to mention, she's one of the few child actors that didn't ruin her life or career.

Footloose is a classic! And what about Tremors! #1 in my book!

I find these movies, and these actors, entertaining. But that's just me.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

I like these movies myself and find them enjoyable to watch BUT they are fiction. I just enjoy watching BGs thinking they have an easy target and then "aha" to their dismay they are in way over their heads. Fiction but still fun.

By the way I LOVE Jodie Foster and find her getting more attractive over the years.

When I go to see a movie I go for the entertainment. I don't pay attention to the political clap trap that you find in most movies today. For example I saw a lot of people twist off on "Open Season" when it came out in 2006. I saw it for it's entertainment value and nothing more. I told anyone that read more into it than just being a cartoon to get a life

I'm always going over little "drills" and "what-if" scenarios with my wife to make sure she knows what to do and where to go in case trouble starts. We were talking about something along these lines Monday when she told me about some guy who's entire family was burned alive while they slept, and he was beaten within an inch of his life. I assured her, had that been my family the guy would've died on the court house steps.

There is a point in most men's lives where nothing else matters, and that right there, having my family taken away from me, is my threshold.

As for Jodie Foster.........

The day an intelligent, logical, factual pro-RKBA movie is made in hollywood will be the day I appear in a romantic, heart tugging chick flick with Stevie-D-64 as my wingman and Meg Ryan as my main squeeze.

And that aint never gonna happen - the Meg Ryan part.

I've had a thing for Jodie Foster since I was a kid. I'll definitely be going to see it.

From what I can see, the vigilante is the hero. And even if she is portrayed as some psycho nut job - I'm seeing that as a portrayal of a crime victim who snapped, not as the portrayal of a legally armed citizen.

In my opinion, we need to get more people to have the "I can take personal responsibility for my own safety" mindset. If a couple vigilante movies are what's required to make people aware that they can defend themselves, then I'm fine with that.

I'll go see this, because I love jodie foster (even if she's an anti nutjob) and I'll wait for judgement until then.

I loved the original deathwish movie. As it's a movie, and not reality, I can empathize with someone who'se been a victim, getting back at the world that victimised them.

Doesn't mean I'd do it in real life, but there is that tiny part of me that'd love to. You know, that part of me that I'll never let see the light of day because i'm civilized.

EDIT: To answer an above question, it appears the story takes place in NYC, so either she gets an illegal gun, or the laws are different in the movie than they are in real life. Again, I can't wait to see this, and hopefully I don't get disgusted and walk out.

An NPR interview with Foster about the movie: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... d=14359582. Click the "Listen" button under the title to play the interview.

This one was leaning toward my no-see list before, but I might watch it now...at least when it comes out on DVD. From the interview, I don't come away with a strong anti slant. We'll see.

Jodie Foster was interviewed on The Daily Show the other day. I was thinking she was pro-gun, at first, because she talked about how "powerful" having a gun made you feel - but then at the very end of the interview she blew it by saying something along the lines of "Real people, emotional people, should not have guns. Only robots should."

I wanted to barf. She's probably thinking, you know, robots, like Arnold Swarchenegger in those Terminator movies.
