I don't have a problem with anyone in any position of responsibility asking to see my LTC. After all, if you don't have one, you are already violating the law here in Texas by carrying anywhere outside of your own property and vehicles. I am always polite and cooperative, and try to be a good ambassador for our cause. That being said, I have only been asked a few times. I remember a couple of times in a business (one was a liquor store). I also remember a couple of times when visiting with friends or acquaintances on private property owned by someone that I did not know. Showing your LTC is courteous, and takes away all questions of what your intent might be.

So how about this scenario? You go to attend a city sponsored event and they have put up a fence around the entire downtown area, have hired security guards and are wanding all entrants, sending people back to their cars with their pocket knives. WWYD? If you show your LTC, you risk a he said/she said about whether the person with the wand is "in authority".

I elected to say, in a calm voice, "I don't want to be wanded." I got a response in a belligerent tone that said everyone had to be wanded. I calmly asked for a supervisor. Instead, two local LEOs showed up and one approached me, asking me "are you having a good day?" I again replied calmly, showed him my LTC and told him that I didn't think that it would be a good idea for the guy with the wand to find what was on my right hip. In the end, the officer that I spoke me asked me to be wanded, I held up my hands and let the security guard run his wand over me, not worrying about whatever noises that wand made and the officer and I walked into the event, talking about guns. I'm certain that he was convinced that I posed no threat and he acknowledged that the city had to allow concealed carry. I'm confident that it would not have turned out as well if I had shown my LTC to the paid security guy but there is no way to tell that for sure. BTW, I had a pocket knife with me, too.

Yes, it's always best to be polite and cooperative in those situations. Be polite, cooperative and be done with it.

However, you have as much legal right to ask a security guard to see his state issued license as he does to ask to see your LTC....none.
Unless, of course, if said "security guard" is an off duty police officer in uniform, or shows his law enforcement credentials if in a guard uniform.

In your scenario no one ASKED to see your LTC. The question posed by the OP was what would you do when asked.

Hello, I love these discussions. Correct me if I am wrong, the only individuals who can demand to see your license are magistrates or a peace officers (references below).

I decided to also look up peace officers. I found the following info also referenced below: Art. 2.12. WHO ARE PEACE OFFICERS. The following are peace officers. There are at least 30+ groups, including #33 " officers commissioned by the State Board of Dental Examiners under Section 254.013, Occupations Code, subject to the limitations imposed by that section". Thought the various potential "peace officers" was interesting, did not see your run of the mill security guard.

I mentioned in another thread that I attend a place of worship with 30.06 and 30.07 signage. One of the individual team members (not a law enforcement officer but a license to carry instructor) stated that the signs give him the authority to ask for a LTC license should he see someone printing.

I agree that in most circumstances it is easier just to go along with the untrained or ill-informed individual. Think Zombified did it right.

Also including a link on YouTube of a John Doyle, Heck off Commie, open carrying in various places in places including Whole Foods (interesting, locked his keys in the trunk and went into a store with no gun signs allowed, unsure which state, and escorted out by police).

My relating the story was based on the cooperation - or in my case the lack of it. There are times when being cooperative is a good thing and other times when I don't believe that it is helpful.
