I, too, would be inclined to dig out my pistol first . . . leaving me about 19 minutes and 55 seconds to call the police.

I don't know exactly what happened, but when there's an angry mob, one of whose members gets hurt, I lean towards siding with the mob-ee, rather than the mob-er.

+1

If I ever have to reach for my firearm, the other hand will be dialing 911 as soon as the threat is neutral.

Notice I did not say neutralized....

I think that was probably the main thing that convicted him... he knew they were coming over, and didn't call the police beforehand.

Yeah it didn't mention him having advance notice. Thats a pretty crucial piece of information that is missing. I would have certainly called for help if I had that much time to do something. That would make much more sense.
The wait is on!!!

It's hard to judge the situation when so many holes are in the story. (I guess we should be used to it by now.)

With the information given, my sympathy goes to the homeowner. If an angry group of people (often called a mob) were outside threatening someone inside my house, my first inclination would be to grab the most powerful gun I could shoot. I would also stuff spare magazines and a BUG in my waistband before picking up the phone. I don't think angry mobs wait for the cops to arrive in order to act.
I have a hard time feeling sorry for people that instigate the violence, then claim to be the victims when things don't go as they had planned.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.
