HAVE NOT RECEIVED TR100 YET???
I took my class on Feb. 18, and we were all told that they will send the TR100 to us in the mail, and then we are to send it in with the rest of our packet. I called the place that took my class today, and they said that they dont know when they will be able to mail them out. My friends and family members said that they received their certificate the same day that they took the class (at a different place). I am just wondering if anybody has heard of this method, and if so, about how long did you have to wait before you were finally able to send the packet to the state?
if anybody could provide some insight on this, I would appreciate it.

I don't know where you took your class, and I am not about to talk badly about another instructor, but... I have never let anyone leave one of my classes without everything they need to put in the mail to the DPS (except the check. They have to supply that! )
It could be that your instructor is waiting to receive certificates from the DPS. There have been some delays in getting those recently, and the TR100 needs that certificate number. However, the instructor can call the DPS and find out what certificate numbers have been assigned to him (or her) and then go ahead and put the number on your TR100. You won't have a certificate in your hand yet, but that doesn't keep you from sending in your application. Your instructor may not know that. I only found out recently.
I would call again and find out exactly what the holdup is. "We don't know when we will be able to mail them out" is not good enough.
Good luck!

If feasible, I would suggest paying a visit to the place you took your CHL class and speak with your instructor. February 18 to now and still no TR100 form is an awfully long time to wait, especially when your supposed to receive that form the day you take the class. Good luck.
I empathize as I experienced the same exact thing. We we're told by our instructor that apparently there had been a delay in DPS sending TR100 forms to the place in which I took the class (essentially the instructor had none). So, like yourself, my class was told by our instructor that he was expecting them in on Monday (took class on a Saturday), would mail them off A.S.A.P., and we'd have the form no later than Wednesday or Thursday the following week of the class. Well, after that following week, I had received nothing in the mail. I waited a second week and still nothing. So, I decided to pay my instructor a visit and was told that they had all been mailed out as he said. I was told to give it another day or two and if still nothing was received, he would be happy to fill out another form. As it turns out, he had to fill out another form. Guess what happened? I received the original TR100 form about a month after he filled out a new one for me. Still do not know what happened. What I do know is that I had to jump through some hoops through this whole experience. Thank God it is almost over. License was issued today.I took my class on Feb. 18, and we were all told that they will send the TR100 to us in the mail, and then we are to send it in with the rest of our packet. I can't speak about the specific instructor/range that you were dealing with, but I can tell you that DPS is really messed up on forms and packets right now. I'm still waiting on packets that were supposed to be here in January. You are lucky to even have application materials at all.Geopagus wrote:BSC wrote:

As far as TR100 forms, I have plenty, because they sent me 200 forms to go with my last order of 20 certificates and packets. But I used up the last of my packets with my last class, and I'm not holding my breath that they'll get me any packets by this weekend.
Something is seriously amiss in the CHL office. I just had a student call this week. Both students in my class, applied at the same time, and his wife received her license last month (not within 60 days, either). When his had not arrived after a few extra weeks, he called only to be told that there was no application for him in their office. He had mail receipt showing its delivery, but they don't have it.
Same thing on my last renewal. Applied in June, they finally "find" it in September. To their credit, they did expedite it and got it to me by its October expiration.

TR100's are plentiful, the problem is the certificates we pay for. Each certificate has a number on it which must go on the TR100.
We have 6 instructors and run over 150 students a month. I ordered certs on Feb 10th, and still don't have this months. Thankfully, we have a few backstock or we would be in sad shape.
I have no idea what the problem is with DPS.

When I talked to them in February, I was told the certificates were not the problem. They sent me the 20 certificates right away, along with 200 TR100's. It's just the packets that they couldn't get out, according to the secretary I talked with.txinvestigator wrote:TR100's are plentiful, the problem is the certificates we pay for. I just spoke to Marion at DPS. They are having trouble processing the huge numbers of requests for certificates. Certificates are sent along WITH packages. They have enough, just not enough staffing to get them out quickly.
The orders go to the money handling people first, then to CHL.
It sucks, but we are gonna have to deal with it.

I have never received certificates and packets together. They have always been shipped separately. Until recently I always received my packets a few days after the certificates arrived. Certificates have always come in a first class envelope, while the packets and TR100's came in a parcel post box.txinvestigator wrote:I just spoke to Marion at DPS. Marion is the one who told me back in January that they were behind on preparing the packets and they would ship them ASAP.

I meant that they send packages when you order certificates. They are tied together as an order, not shipped together.wrt45 wrote:I have never received certificates and packets together. Marion said it will take a minumum of 4 weeks to get certs. Fortunately, we have BOXES of packets; I am hurting for certificates.

I was in the same boat once and may be again, I've got about 60 left and should reorder.
When I got caught like that I made copy's of a certificate with the #'s taped over so I could write in the #'s that I got from Marion and then just did away with the used #'s when I got them in. I also keep some of those in case I make a mistake on an orginal I can replace it by just filling in the blank slot.

Something sounds amock bigtime there. I can somewhat understand their running behind due to assembling of packets, but it sounds like SOMEONE failed to get an order for (sequentially numbered) certificates to the printer in time. Or they are still shopping for low bid.

TX, I understand that, but something still appears amock bigtime there. For the kind of $ that we pay for the certificates and $ that students pay for the license, "customer service" should be better than that. If we ran our businesses in such a manner, we would be OUT of business pretty quickly - unless we were the only game in town (which they obviously are).
Another of their "efficiences" that I suspect is beyond Marion is the 1:1 ratio of mailed certificates to mailed packets (to instructors). I got in a fresh batch of certificates a couple of weeks ago, but still no matching packets (still with the OLD law booklets?) have hit the mailbox.
But, hey, like many, I don't really need 'em (except for some NEW law books) due to the build-up of boxes of 'em not needed by all of last year's students who already had theirs via intenet applications (and EXPENSIVE solo mailings).
It's amazing sometimes to me, within the Department, the differences in not just efficiencies, but ATTITUDE. But ... I best get off the soap box and find a fresh cup of coffee ...
