Below is the response I got when I sent an E-mail concerning the status of my PIN number.
"We receive your application on 1/11/06; but at this time it is still going through its regular processing. It is a 60-day process for original applications; please give it a little more time. Thank you and have a nice day. "
So in their mind it takes a FULL 60 days to process an initial application. Not that they are ALLOWED 60 days.
I agree - and your illegal 63 days is better than a lot of folks experience (although you don't have it yet so who knows). Call your rep or call DPS again and get a person. They can (and will) put you to the front of the line if you squeek enough.
I really am beginning to think that theres been quite an increase in apps. resulting in longer wait times. From what I've read, CHL instructors are reporting heavy increases in people signing up to take the class. I received my pin on calendar day 31. License issued today at calendar day 85; just to give you an idea of my own wait time.
I mailed off my application for a non-resident CHL (New Hampshire) today. I'll wager (not really), that I will get it back before most of you receive your PIN's.
I hope I am wrong.. because I know how it feels to be kept waiting.

I know of two instructors in Browsville who offer classes once a month, and they are usually full.

They are none too fast in Austin though.
I need to do the same thing pretty danged fast here. Going to be heading to Alabama this summer and the NH non-resident will allow me to still carry. No reciprocity between Alabama and Texas...

I'm not surprised. The valley is fast becoming a dangerous place, due mainly to all of the drug trafficking between the border. The valley that I once knew while growing up there.....has severely changed. Stay safe.
Received my PIN today. The letter was dated 17 working days after application was received. I guess thats not too bad.
It took the USPS 6 days to get the letter from Austin to Brownsville. They must be using the Pony Express again.
Awesome.
Now join me in my daily ritual of pounding the website, multiple times, daily to check my status.
My 60-day "deadline" is March 19th. Wonder how far and how often I should bug 'em after that. I know someone in here said they actually have 90 days, but I plan on playing dumb.
