3rd renewal

#1

Post by Pappy007 »

Anybody going for their third renewal?
I know that all that is required is the prints, photo, etc., but, class and proficiency are not required.

Question...Will DPS automatically recognize the 3rd renewal?

Or do I have to remind them. If so, How??

Thank you, Pappy

At our instructor renewal school last August, they basically said their computer was supposed to keep track of it all. If the letter you get from them 5 to 6 months before expiration does not appear to have things correct, I'd call 'em on one of the numbers provided.

I have just received the renewal letter and all numbers are correct.
They did give me a PIN number.
Instructions are to go on-line and complete a portion of the renewal application.

Before I do so, was curious if 3rd renewal would be there.
Anybody go thru this before me?
Thanks.

I completed my third renewal in March. Nothing was noted in the packet I received that this was my third renewal. Other than the cost of the renewal class, I felt it was well worth my time to attend the class in order to catch up on recent changes in the law. Still waiting on my plastic to arrive.

I suppose I'll attend the class and mention that it's my 3rd renewal. The instructor should know...

DPS knows who is on their 3rd renewal, but they aren't going to note that on the application or anywhere in the packet. At first, they were going to, but they changed their policy. I would never discourage anyone from attending a renewal class, but you don't have to. DPS will check your record when they get your application. You could also include a note or letter stating this is your third renewal.

I just completed my third renewal and her is what I found out. My renewal also was on my 60th birthday, so I had a question on that also. I called DPS and actually got through. They explained that if I renewed on-line before my 60th birthday, I would have to pay the before 60 rate. If I requested a packet to be mailed to me, I could renew early and pay the senior rate.

I am also a veteran and asked if I could get half off of my senior rate also (only $17.50) They explained that I could only get one of the discounts, they were not additive. If I had taken the veteran discount, I would have had to send in a copy of my DD214 with my application.

It was also my third renewal, so I asked them what to do. They looked up my file, agreed that this was my third renewal, and said I didn't need to send in a copy of my last class certificate or anything regarding a class. They would know. I noted on the form that it was my third renewal anyway, just in case.

So I sent in the application form DPS filled out, the notary forms, fingerprints, passport photos, and a $35 check and am now waiting for new plastic.
be safe,
be prepared,
tomc

That's consistent with some of the 20-minutes of wasted yeow-yeow in my August 7 renewal class. I'm most appreciative of being able to learn such here, but it would certainly be better if they would reinstate "instructor newsletters" - or at least use their web site to relay such changes to instructors on a timely basis. Maybe that's another one of the reasons that Marion does not answer the phone. :banghead:

I'll get to the third renewal sooner or later. I'm getting started early (just turned 21).

I wish I could say about marriage. I'd like to hit the 50th anniversary with a woman but as it stands I'm single now and as far as I know a decade away from marriage.
