URGENT: DPS Processing Information Needed ASAP!!!

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I started a new thread and poll on DPS processing times. I planned to use this information in the 2009 Texas Legislative Session. I still do.

However, something has come up and I need information ASAP. Monday, April 14th is the deadline for me, so please respond with an email to me at ccotton@cottonfarrell.com. The information requested will be used and it will be given to DPS in a meeting coming up very soon. Here is the information I need. Provide it ONLY if you are willing to help by letting your name and information be used and ONLY is your CHL is late. Please copy and use the form below; it will help in collating the information.

Thanks,
Chas.

I gotta ask again... what timeframe are you looking for? Do you want people who are CURRENTLY late or those who have been late in the past and how far into the past do you want to go?

What do you consider late? > than 60 days for processing?

All respect due you Mr. Cotton – but is this research considering all those that received their renewals in a timely or even faster than normal? Please don’t think I am just being a contrarian I got my renewal within a couple weeks of submitting the package. Is it fair to hammer TXDPS on their failures to get something out the door timely without noting that they occasionally (maybe regularly) exceed expectations unless there is accurate data supporting a failure to meet their timelines? I’m just sayin…

The law requires processing renewals within 45 days and initial applications within 60 days. It doesn't matter how many times DPS complies with the law, any more than a citizen could defend a speeding ticket by arguing that they comply with the law 80% of the time. Based upon the number of complaints received and the polls that ran here on the forum since 2005, late processing isn't a minor problem.

As for hammering DPS, that is not the intent at all. If staffing is a problem, then it needs to be fixed. That helps DPS, it's not hammering them.

Thanks anyway. Weekends count, BTW. It's 60 calendar days, not business days.
