Change of address status on website

#1

Post by Toolguy »

Howdy! I finished moving into my house and, as a law-abiding CHL holder is required, I contacted DPS via the web site and requested a change of address. I did this on 7/3. I just checked the web site and saw: "No application or license/certificate active." Now, the first thing I read was "No ....license.....active!"

After reading it again, I calmed down a little and checked my credit card to find a charge from TXDPS CRS CHL AUSTIN TX for $25. So, I am sure everything is fine and they are just processing my change, but I thought the web site would say something like "License/certificate active" or maybe "Processing address change" or something else. Maybe I am just working too many hours. Anyone have any thoughts? Does anyone have a wild guess as to how long a change of address takes?

Oh, one more thing for those not familiar with the process, keep your PIN in a safe place. I did not think about it until I needed it AFTER moving! You must have it to change your address on line. However, it only took a day or so after my request for DPS to email it to me. Nice people!

If you move and they do not make the change quickly, should one carry the receipt to prove you notified DPS?

Your DL and CHL will show different addresses.

Just a thought.

Wow! I received my CHL with new address on 7/21. Wow! That is less than three weeks! In fact, it came in on the same day as my TDL, and I updated the TDL one day earlier. My original issue CHL took a long time, but the change of address was acceptable, fast even.

Congratulations! That's good to hear, maybe things are changing for the better down Austin way? I guess all of our collective gripping may have done some good. Hope so. I was sure surprised yesterday when mine changed!!! :thumbs2:
