"Katrina evacuees arrested after Houston shootout
HOUSTON Two Hurricane Katrina evacuees from Louisiana face attempted capital murder charges after a shootout in Houston.
Last night's gunfire involved the suspects and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Nobody was hurt.
Houston police say 21-year-old John Emerson Magee and 24-year-old Therrin Shezbie were each charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer.
The A-T-F agents had checked the license plate of a Ford Expedition and found it had outstanding city warrants.
They followed the S-U-V until it pulled up next to a white Nissan.
The drivers from both vehicles got out and started firing at the those officers, who drove in reverse to get away from the suspects.
The suspects then starting shooting at a Houston officer and another A-T-F agent.
The suspects drove away -- but were later arrested."

Not sure what is more interesting about this article? The fact that the Houston Police Chief said last year that he wasn't expecting any increase in crime from Katrina or the fact that I couldn't find this article in the Houston Chronicle... I found it in the Lubbock news.

This is what really interested me. Since when does the ATF enforce local laws or warrents?Paladin wrote:The A-T-F agents had checked the license plate of a Ford Expedition and found it had outstanding city warrants.
This got to me so much, I actually registered just to say this heh.

They were probably working a case and ran the plate. Notice they followed the car and did not try to apprehend. They probably called HPD to do a stop, but the shooting happened first.skerbo wrote:This is what really interested me. Welcome aboard skerbo. Register for this one but don't let it be your last post. Good place to spend the evening after all work is done. Texaschl beats TV all to pieces.

Thanks longtooth.
Here's another article about ATF 'non-arrest'. It says they were on campus for "Project Safe Neighborhoods training". The caption of the photo says he was not arrested, but his position under the ATF officer's knee looks pretty serious.
Here's the link.
