I've been wearing Coronado Leather Wear for years and love it. If I ever came up with a reason to I could swing 2 full size 1911's with spare mags and no one would be the wiser.

everytime i've worn my 5.11 vest i've been asked if i'm i photog... people are unaware... it is a heavy vest though as mentioned, not summer friendly... short sleeved button-up is about as summer friendly as it gets for me...

i wear a fleece vest in the fall & winter and as soon as i find a longer one for CC i'll have something that will blend in very nicely i think...

My wife is a photographer. My brother-in-law is a photographer. I have several friends who are photographers. I have never seen a photographer wear a "photographer's vest". I wonder what kind of photographers wear vests.

I noticed that many of the photographers at the Olympic gymnastic venue were wearing vests. I suspect that sports photographers in general might because they have to move around so much. I have no data to support that supposition other than the aforementioned observation.

That's an interesting point, as I don't know any sports photographers.

My church was recently featured in USA Today. The linked article is an archived version without the pictures, but the USA Today photographer who took the pictures which appeared in the original publication was wearing a photographer's vest while he was working. He didn't appear to have any guns, but he kept pulling big lenses out of nowhere.

I have a 5.11 vest, designed with carry in mind. Has a cloth holster mountable in large internal pocket, either left or right side, by way of a large double-sided velcro patch. Numerous other pockets inside and out. Received the vest from my son, who received it from someone else.

I don't use it. Very heavy. Even heavier when firearm is mounted. Weight is on the shoulders, assymetric. Weight is not close to body; swings around too much. Might use the vest for light items if I got back into freelance photography.

I do carry (usually a Glock 26, sometimes a full size 1911, sometimes something else) in sidearmor IWB holster. Good strong belt designed for carry. Weight is close to body, does not fling around when I walk.

Preferred cover is untucked shirt, if I have one that meets the fashion dress code for the event. Secondary (or preferred in winter) is ordinary vest, long enough to cover firearm. Tertiary cover (primary when I was a copier repair guy; dress slacks and tucked in business shirt) is just to blouse the shirt around the firearm (which is mounted at 3:30, between front and rear tails of the shirt). Yes, it looks a bit scruffy along the belt-line - not the Steve McQueen or Paul Newman look, and maybe the belt loops of the holster show, but I can live with that.

Vest is great idea for covering a belt mounted firearm. Not satisfactory for carrying the firearm in.

Currently I think about untucked shirt in the summer and a vest of some type in the winter - I think vest in the winter is very ok and most folks would not think a thing about it.

I have seen a lot of casual/photograpy type vests, does anyone know of a concealment vest that is "nice" looking - wear with dockers and a long sleve shirt?

Depends on your tastes; I wear the Coronado Safari everywhere as a tactical vest that looks a bit eccentric rather than tactical, though they have lots of other designs. http://www.coronadoleather.com/

Vest is great idea for covering a belt mounted firearm. Not satisfactory for carrying the firearm in.

Carrying the firearm in one of the 5.11 vest's hidden pockets requires a very clumsy, slow, two handed draw.

Using it to carry small items and to conceal a belt mounted firearm is a much more satisfactory use.
