Problems w/DPS

Is anyone having problems with DPS taking too long to issue CHL's? Losing applications and having to re-submit?

Not responding to e-mail? Not answering the phone? Not being helpful, friendly or respectful when you finally get through on the phone?

They are swamped and backlogged with applications. Maybe you can ask them if they needed anything else in your case. They won't know and tell you what's missing if you don't asked. They will just tell you it's processing. Happened to me. I called them and asked them to find out that they needed proof of citizenship from me. That was after the 90th day.

Mine ran from March to May of this year and they always replyed to my e-mails (sometimes it took 3 days) I called them 3 times and I always got through (1 took a few mintes) and everyone I spoke with was very nice and helpful. 2 times I called at 8:30am CDT and got right in to someone.

They are violating the law with respect to how long it takes to process, but other than that I have no complaints about the people doing the job. They always responded and were polite - though not always with a very helpful answer (still processing).

I have hit the stage in my life where I hope they will take a few days longer to issue. (Day 85 and still "Processing Application")

My birthday is next week and if the issue date is after that, then I get an extra full year.

Sorry Granny, the smart money says your licecnce will be dated about 10 days after they received your paperwork. (shall issue) The rest of this time amounts to them second guessing their decision, wasting time, yada, yada.

Granny, mine was 6 days after my birthday. I got the whole year too. It was nearly a month late though. 30 days worth the whole yr? yes, if nothing happens.

Seeing as how I work for a State agency, I am reluctant to say anything bad about the DPS, because I know they are under-staffed and under-funded in general, but I am far from thrilled with the staff in their CHL bureau.

41 days after tehy received my application, I hadn't received my PIN, so I e-mailed them inquiring about the status. They replied the next day with my PIN, and no other information about my status. 6 days later I received my TR-100 back because I forgot to sign the thing. Back in the DPS's hands in a couple of business days. After over two weeks since they got the TR-100 back, I e-mailed Waldene because my status still showed application incomplete. I asked if there was something else they needed for my app to be complete and asked for an estimate as to how much longer my mistake on the TR-100 would make my wait. Three days later, I got a reply from Waldene stating that my app was complete and that they were "just processing" my app. No attempt at all to answer my question about how much longer. 33 days after I received the e-mail with my PIN (and 23 days after the DPS received my TR-100 back) I received in the mail a letter with my PIN.

I will say the staff has been polite, if a little curt, but I am frustrated with their avoidance of answering certain questions. I am also more than a little curious why it took them a month to generate the letter with my PIN, since it was assigned so long ago (comparatively). I admit I may be somewhat cynical, because of my situation, but that's the way I feel. Maybe in a few years, I'll have a good experience with my renewal, and I'll change my mind, but I'm not particularly happy with them right now.

I work for the government, and I don't hesitate in the least to vent my ire about them!

Hmmm, OK I am confused but thats normal. I recieved my License 1 month and 3 days after my birthday and mine expires 4/22/11(B-day). Isnt that a month short of 5 years or am I unable to count today?

GC 411.183 (a) A license issued under this subchapter expires on the first birthday of the license holder occurring after the fourth anniversary of the date of issuance.

(b) A renewal license expires on the license holder's birthdate, five years after the date of the expiration of the previous license.

So the term of license would be at least 4 years on a new license but can be as long as 5 yr minus 1 day, if the issue date just misses your BD. I would say you did pretty well with an extra 10.5 months.

If mine is issued today, I would get 4 yrs and 1 week, and not quite make the senior discount in 5 yrs. I am not going to bug Waldene again until next Tuesday!

ha...Diode....would take the being 53 in 5 years!....lol...will be 62 on 02/02/2011.....my DOB
Feeling real dense here....where is the issue date....vertical along pic?....if so, last digits are 060825??.....and Exp date if 02/02/2011...already used all my fingers and thusfar one foot trying to count out....LOL
