That's a SA-specific law, the "under 5.5" = illegal". The Texas state law is "over 5.5" = illegal"

Isn't it funny that it never mentions any exception for being enroute from a motor vehicle

It does seem a little odd that you could, technically, walk from Texarkana directly to your car in El Paso with the listed weapons, but then be illegal if you pull up on the street across from your house and carry one across the street to the house.

Ah...a list of great knives. Thank you. I would like to add the KABAR TDI series. They are inexpensive and can be carried in a variety of ways. They come in small, medium, and large. The angle of the handle really makes weak hand use a little easier. My grip is not nearly as strong on the left side and this compensates for a bit of it.

jbirds, that's a great choice! I have a couple of those, and I really like them. They are compact on the beltline and that's a big plus. They also suffer from the poor sheath , but I've found a solution for that with the custome sheath maker,Infight Access Kydex Sheaths. There is also a training drone for practicing with. I also have a few "contact trainers" that are greatly appreciated by training partners.

I knew I would forget some, and someone would take up the slack. LOL

It's also good to see what other folks have found to work well.

"Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or

I guess that would include the Klingon Batleth I have hanging on my office wall, huh?

Many thanks for that. I have a David Mosier Trigonaut that I really love, and it came a very serviceable Kydex sheath...but it can't be positioned for carry where I want it. Tried my own leather attempt...no good. Now I may have a solution.

There you'll find sheaths for KaBar's TDI and Cold Steel's Braveheart, safemaker, safe keeper to name a few.
I have them for my TDI knives and they work great! They allow for a full grip while the knife is still in the sheath, and that is very, very important!

Did I miss something? How does a Neck Knive differ from a pocket knive, a belt knive, a bayonet or a butt knive, etc., etc? What is a Neck Knive and what is its purpose?

Yes, by definition. Chapter 46 gives you an exception because of where it is located.

(a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on
or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly enroute to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under
the person's control.<SNIP>
