what about it's the backyard? if someone opens your backyard door and walks into your yard, it's a free target too?
You mean like the gas company meter reader? Or more like your neighbor's kid getting her ball if it goes over the fence?
:thumbs2: Good point...

Too many folks are quick to say they would discharge their weapons in these instances...Remember you might very well have the advantage in most of these situations...

But I challenge those here who actually carry, in say, their gated and fenced in backyards??? And to top it off, I have nieghbors who are more than welcome to bee bop into my backyard if the gate is unlocked and they know I am back there...As I am welcome to do so in theirs...

I'm not going to shoot my nieghbors at the drop of a hat...

Control, recognition and having the confidence in your abilities to take care of any situation with the appropriate response, in my opinion, is paramount...

Most of us are not going to shoot people we recognize, such as our neighbors' ten-year-old that goes to retrieve a ball in the back yard.

My neighbors' ten-year-old is not the violent sort, and if she were to snap and become so, I'm confident that I could overpower her without deadly force. Aside from that, I don't know of any kids that are up to any good that would break locks on fences to retrieve a ball; most would come to the front door and ask for access first.

Keeping doors locked, even when home, is not only a good safety measure, but throws out more of the possibility for an ambiguous situation to present itself.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

And a good opinion it is, Venus Pax. I agree completely.

I have 2 dogs..one an Aiaredale Terrier(WWI British guard dog), and a beagle mix rescue dog, and I STILL keep my doors locked, garage door down and latched, and the side yard gate locked.

Just good common safety sense to me.

Wow, your Aiaredale is really old. :smilelol5:

I'm involved in my neighborhood watch, and I'll occasionally go for a walk with my dog around 10pm. There are several folks out this time of evening doing the same thing...getting their exercise after the blazing sun goes down. I'm amazed at how many people have their garage doors standing wide open with all the lights off, and how many people have their front doors open, with just the glass storm door shielding a predators entry. My house is sealed tighter than a drum...always. During the day, there are also several homeowners in the neighborhood that leave their garage and front doors open. I'm afraid that they are begging to be a target. The HOA and crime watch groups have advised everyone about the potential for BG activity, but some people just feel that it won't happen to them. I hope they are prepared for the unexpected.

Oh wow, another comedian! Between you and USA1 you'll have us on our toes all the time. :smilelol5: J/K!

I know, same in our neighborhood. It's amazing how little people think of security. Well I guess I(we) are of a different mindset...thank goodness.
