CHL being mentioned in accident report form
Hypothetical question here, if you are in an accident and you are carrying, does the fact that you have a CHL and that you are carrying get reported on the accident report form? If so, could an insurance company have any recourse when they received their copy of the accident report form to not cover damages? Or an employee in a company vehicle who was in an accident could likely be reprimanded if company has no weapons clause? Again, hypothetical so I don't have any circumstances to include, so for the sake of the discussion assume whatever you may. I did a search on the forum and didn't come up with anything, so maybe a non issue!

Re: CHL being mentioned in accident report form
i would tend to beleive it would have no bearing .
i wouldn't think it would be documented on a police report .
maybe someone who has had first hand experience can tell us .

Re: CHL being mentioned in accident report form
The last time I looked, there was no place on the form to include the information. Since it is irrelevant to the accident, i would see no reason to worry about it being there. I also cannot see how it could make a difference to the insurance company paying the claim.

I was involved in one about a year ago - handed the police my DL and CHL - he handed back the CHL and said he did not need it. No further discussion.

Hypothetical , what if your out and can not speak. What happens when EMTs find your firearm? Do they take it and give to LEO? Then you get it back later? Curious.....

Most probably LEO handling the scene will retrieve your CC and safe keep it, until you are able to claim it back. What is wrong with that?

So, for you guys that have been in an accident and you gave the LEO your CHL, were you also carrying your firearm?

Re: CHL being mentioned in accident report form
That`s what I thought ,Just have to verify the firearm is yours to get it back ,right ?
Just wanted to make sure , god forbid I`m ever in an accident.
I just could`nt remember off the top of my head.

Re: CHL being mentioned in accident report form
Wrong, by law there is still requirement to provide both when asked for an ID. After Sept 1 2009 there is no penalty if you are NOT carrying and did NOT provide a CHL.couzin wrote:No need to show it if not carrying.biblefreak wrote:So, for you guys that have been in an accident and you gave the LEO your CHL, were you also carrying your firearm?

Re: CHL being mentioned in accident report form
Sorry, Beiruty, the law hasn't changed the requirements in which to present a CHL. Texans have never been required to present when not carrying. Some LEO's are misinformed, but that is the law.
The only recent change is that if you fail to present when required, i.e., when carrying, there is no longer a penalty.
