iPhone app? Yay or Nay?

#1

Post by keyframe »

I want to mess around with making an iPhone app, so I thought about doing one that would work in conjunction with texas3006.com or similar and display all the 30.06 and 51% places near you so you could stay away or at least be informed. Then I got to thinking, is it really smart to bring this in a very public forum and maybe educate those that are not educated already to put up a 30.06 sign and keep us out?

What do you think?

A proper iPhone app would be nice. I'm not sure I'd actually pay for it, but if were free, I'd definitely install it.

Yes please. Make it community driven as well, so you can submit locations through the app that will be marked as 'possible' until someone else confirms it as well. Eg, 2 people confirming it, confirms it on the site.

Same with removals. If a place is marked on the site, if 2 people say it is no longer there, then remove it.

I would DEFINITELY buy something that useful, especially with a 1.99 or less price point.

Where do you plan to get the 51% data? I don't think TABC has that publically available yet.

Great idea. There are so mnay aps that I don't think you would educate very many non-CHLers.

Let us know when it is released, I will buy it. :patriot:

I think it would be great, and I for one find it useful. Unlike most apps out there this one could be designed with mapping features via google, toggle 30.06 vs 51% on/off , yes I would buy it. I would not expect it for free unless you rolled out a lite version. For those who don't carry most of the time it may not have much value, but whats the deal on paying 5-10 bucks. Some said they want it only if its free or 1.99, but yet you go to the range and shoot 50-100 buck at a go, or how many non-useful gun items do you have laying around. If my wife were to know this answer it would cost me a new dining room set, no maybe more than that

Do we have iPhone apps for 50 state CC or OC info, weapon laws etc... that would be handy as well

That's cool. In a congested place like NYC I can see having that. I didn't notice anything on his display further than half a mile. In a less congested area I wonder if it would be worth it since you could probably see all those things yourself.

I've actually searched the app store a couple of times trying to find something like this. If it were available, I'd probably buy it. I've even thought it'd be cool if it was something that would automatically detect via GPS if you're entering or even in the immediate vicinity of a 30.06 / 51% building, and if so, it could beep or vibrate to alert you.

Great idea. A free or inexpensive "current location"-based app would be useful.

It would have to have to be GPS enabled to make it worthwhile for me. Otherwise I might as well go straight to the http://www.texas3006.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website from my phone.
