Sign up for Texas CHL alerts on your mobile phone

#1

Post by kidder014 »

I'm beginning a new service that will provide general CHL related alerts and information (law changes, CHL news, etc) via text messages to subscribers of the service. It is absolutely free to subscribe and receive alerts, only standard text messaging charges apply.

If you wish to sign up for this new service, use your cell phone and send a text message to 41411 that simply says TEXASCHL

You can unsubscribe at anytime by sending a text to 41411 that says STOP.

Alerts may be limited at this time until I have fully set up the service. Because I hate receiving tons of texts like you probably do, at no point will more than 5 alerts go out in a single week.

Sign up now if you are interested. Text TEXASCHL to 41411

I'll try it out. I currently get breaking news and weather alerts on my phone.

How about breaking .380 ammo alerts.

I'm afraid .380 ammo alerts would be few and far between :)

Not to throw a negative light on your effort to keep CHL'ers informed...but is/will this app be used to collect ANY information whatsoever about the subscriber?

Many of the text-to-subscribe apps are capable of, and used to track the users phone via GPS, log internet usage and website traffic and track power cycles in an effort to compile a"profile" of the subscriber. This "profile" is used to market a myriad of products ranging from coffee and movie rentals, to vehicle purchases, to casino visits and vacation packages.

I'm glad you brought this up.

This does not install anything on your phone, therefore it does not track any of your usage or report GPS coordinates, internet traffic, etc.

The ONLY information this service collects is your mobile telephone number, which is needed in order to send the text message alerts. This will NEVER be used to market unrelated products to you as long as I am in charge of it. And, in compliance with FCC regulations, a simple reply to any message with the word STOP will immediately unsubscribe you and delete your mobile number from the database, preventing you from receiving any further messages from the service.

If I can answer any other questions, just let me know. I'm still working on the API backend, so it may still be a few days before the alerts begin.

Thanks!
