It is human nature to feel challenged when one is approached with an opinion that conflicts with their own.
It is??? That's odd. I don't feel challenged at all when someone has a different opinion than my own. Because that's all it is...a difference of opinion. A diversity. It's not right or wrong....just different. I am secure enough in my opinions and convictions to believe I am not attacked when someone has a different opinion than mine.
It is also human nature to bring others into ones way of thinking. This creates debate...which can trigger emotions...
IMHO, this occurs only when one tries to impress upon another their way of thinking and takes it beyond the norm of congenial discord. To me this indicates a need to control another peoples thoughts, which I don't care for in the least.
At the most, we should offer our opinion. If it is rejected then that's fine. In that case, it's an alternative opinion. And alternatives are always a good thing to consider. If it's accepted, then that's fine too. At the least, you've identified another 'kindred spirit'. And that's always a good thing.
Note: the above is merely my opinion, and I stand unanimous in that.
