Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
I used to work with a guy who had a real bad road rage problem. The slightest thing would set him off. One day I was in the car with him and a guy cut him off and he just waved at the guy. This floored me because he's flown off the handle for less. I asked him about it and he told me he had been cured of his road rage, and told me the following story.
One day he was driving and someone cut him off. When they got to the next red light, my friend got out of his car to give the "what for" to the other driver. He walked up to the driver's door and knocked on the window. The driver rolled the window down half way and stuck a 1911 in his face and asked "You have a problem?". My friend replied "No, sir, I just wanted to tell you to have a nice day."
He hasn't had a road rage episode since. He said a .45 in your face will cure you of all sorts of behavioral issues.

Seeing your life flash by in your mind's eye gives you a whole new new perspective on life. Glad it worked for him. And thanks for sharing. He walked up to the driver's door and knocked on the window. Doing a little mind reading here, but I "texas1234" was thinking more along the lines of Uncle Ben in Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsibility." Not the other...you know, off topic starter.jmra wrote:I am resisting the urge to get way off topic.texas1234 wrote:That gun is a right but it is also a priviledge...

Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
The only thing I would have done different...and have as a matter of fact is gotten my gun at the ready. I am not talking about throwing it up at him, I am talking about taking it out of the holster and keeping it just out of sight but in my hand. If that clown had rushed you while firing a weapon or even gotten to your window and smashed it out, while you were trapped in the car with your gun in the holster, he would have had a serious tactical jump on you. You would then be trying to draw your weapon while freaking out about this guy smashing your window out or firing a gun at you. It would be much better to be able to quickly raise your gun and return fire or even open the door and bail out while firing. trapped in a car is no place to be trying to draw and fire in a gun fight. In the car it is real easy to have your gun in your hand and still concealed down by your leg. All of this is only in the case of not being able to drive away. If you can drive off, this is always the best solution.

The bigger problem is, what if the other guy had a gun too? You're right... the smartest thing to do would be to drive to the police station. That said, I was a bigger dummy that you were, and check it out... we're both still alive. So in both cases, it ended well in spite of our own stupidity.marksiwel wrote:I had a group of kids throw beer bottles at my car, back in the day, I called the cops, and pulled into a parking lot.
Let go back a second, I was 17 or so, Me and my friend were filming a Movie earlier that day, so I had a bunch of Airsoft guns in the Car (Desert Eagle, Berretta m9 , and uzi looking thing)
So I pulled into the Minyards parking lot, the guys followed me (it was a green Jeep), and started to get out of the Car. I panicked, reached into my back seat, pulled out the Desert Eagle Gas Blow Back Airsoft gun, charged the Handle, and they RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN.
Cops showed up a few minutes later, told them everything (Minus the Gun thing) and they wrote it all down.
I think of the mistakes I did that day
I never even THOUGHT of getting thier License Plate. I was only blocks away from the Police Station, I should have just gone there.

That's a good point. Had he actually fully gotten out of the car and started approaching, I'm guessing I would have at least had it ready as you said, but I don't know for sure. The one advantage I knew I had was that this particular light is a short red in the direction we were going, and I only had 1 car in front of me, so I knew the time was going to be short before it turned green again. If he had gotten out and I saw a weapon, I know I would have drawn and just prayed the light changed before I needed to use mine.
Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
Since a lot of us are fessing up, I'll tell a dumb story. I "know this guy" who last summer, was being tailgated by a "gentleman" while on his commute for no reason other than the fact that he was going the speed limit on some back roads and the tailgater didn't want to. So when he got to a stop sign at a 4 way intersection, the tailgater cuts through the gas station parking lot to cut him off as they are both going to turn right. He made a fast complete stop and took off, cutting the tailgater off and making him leave a good 15 foot skidmark in the parking lot as he avoided hitting "this guy that I know," as he came around the corner where he was attempting to pull out. It was when he proceeded through the parking lot that he had had it with his yelling and cursing him out from behind him for a few miles and decided he was done taking static from tailgaters. "This guy" slammed the car in park in the middle of the road and got out of what appears to be a gangster ride, as it's a mid 90's full size GM sedan with questionably dark windows. It turned out the tailgater was old enough to be his dad, as they sat there with the traffic blocked off, "this guy I know" started calling him every name in the book and ordering him to get out of his car. The older guy only cracked his window to yell back, refusing to give into the invite to the fight but could have easily produced a weapon and used it at that point. Basically, "this guy" ended up waiting until the tailgater finally went around him and sped on down the road and got back in his car. He knows that he was a complete moron and you should probably never do anything like what he did, not only because someone may very well be someone else who carries a weapon who you're threatening with a butt whippin, but I'm sure that if reported, you would probably lose your CHL. Fortunately for "this guy," he did not have his CHL at the time and and has really thought his behavior over and now pulls over to allow inconsiderate tailgaters to pass him if he can't take it any longer. He also believes that having a CHL prevents him from giving into situations as mentioned above. Not to mention, he doesn't need his daughter having to be told that "Daddy's on vacation."

Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
Few years ago, before i had my CHL, i was driving with my wife to her friends for dinner. I almost missed my exit and saw a space in front of a truck, so i quickly squeezed in. Well the guy in the truck didnt like that and proceeded to high beam me for a bit.
This really set me off and i quickly moved far right to let him get in front of me. When he did i pulled up behind him and high beamed him all the way to the traffic light. The light turned green and he also pulled over to let me pass, but i pulled over also, far behind him.
He got tired of waiting and continued, i also continued but he got in his left lane and got behind me again as i passed him.
he followed for a couple miles and when i turned into the neighborhood, he followed. I got lost in the neighborhood but he kept on my tail. As i figured my way, i asked my wife to call her friend and ask her friends husband to come out with his baseball bat cuz some crazy guy was following me.
I pulled up to the friends house and her husband was outside. The guy and I both exited our vehicles at the same time and two things surprised me. 1. He had a wife and kid in the truck with him, and 2. he only had one arm :)
He said something i didnt hear and started walking back to his truck, i said hey wait up, you want to talk lets talk. I said are you crazy? Your going to follow a complete stranger home with your wife and kid? What if i had a gun, next time think twice next time you flash your brights at someone.
My friend approached casually swinging his bat and asked the guy if there was a problem. The guys wife yelled for him to get back in the truck, which he did and they left.

Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
This thread brings back an old wish i could forget memory. Back when i lived in H-Town I was heading home getting on the beltway I cut off a guy that was speeding down the beltway. Didn't mean too I was just trying to get over and like the original O.P. just trying to get out of his way. Well this stretch of the beltway(southeast side) didn't have much commercial business and not many exits so we both kept on moving down the road. What i should have done at the time was just slow down let him go on his way and out of site and then move on. Instead i kept my speed we met up at a light. He stopped a few car lengths before the light and I pulled up to the light. He drove up slowly and i watched and then as he drove by he rolled his window down and gave me the number finger and started saying something. I had my windows up and like a goofball raised my hands up and said what did I do?(Remember windows was up in my vehicle) Needless to say I was nervous as heck I had my wife and child in the car and at that time i was not a CHL holder and not carrying. Thank god nothing else escalated and we went our different ways but that bothered me for several days. I never want to be in that situation again. I don't see much of that here in B/CS.

I said, "I'm not going to pull over and argue with some gentleman (not the term I used) with a gun. You must think I'm crazier than you are." That pretty much wrecked any chance for reconciliation he was willing to offer me.

Re: Had my first time to be nervous since I got my CHL
Wow!!! I didn't read all the off topic posts on this thread originally, but just did. I won't mention any posts in particular, but I will say that it sounds like a few of you were real lucky you didn't run into the wrong fellers. Times are changing and violence is worse now than even 10 years ago. Back in the day, you could pull over and maybe at worse duke it out with someone. Now days, you get into a road rage and the odds are high some nut will just start firing rounds at your car. I have really calmed down over the past few years and mostly just shrug off idiotic behavior on the roads. My only temptation these days is to get one of those cell phone jammers to mess with the retards I see driving down the road text messaging.
I watched a documentary about a stone cold killer named Ice Man. He tells a story in it about a couple punks that road raged on him. he pulled over with them and I guess they thought it was going to be a fist fight. He walked up and calmly shot each one of them in the head. He then get's back in his car and goes on about his business like nothing ever happened. LOL...ever since I saw that, I find myself wondering if the guy in the other car might just be a similar feller. You never know who your dealing with and quite frankly, most of us posting on this forum have no idea of how to be a serious bad guy. Heck.... watch one of those prison documentaries about some of the guys in prison . Some of those guys will shoot you for sport. They have no conscience like we do. They will do things without thinking that most of us would never be able to do. Yep...you never know who is in the other car.
