Is there a new parking lot law?

#1

Post by Shark52 »

I searched, but couldn't find an answer.

Was there a recent change in the law concerning having a weapon in your vehicle in a private parking lot? To be more specific, can a company with a "no gun" policy prohibit you from storing your handgun in your car while parked on their lot? What about a parking garage that is NOT attached to the building?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not in Texas. Nothing has changed in this respect for years.

There was a bill in the 2009 legislature, but it died as a result of parliamentary maneuvers.

I assume you are talking about your employer. Yes.

The owner, tenant, or manager of the parking garage can post 30.06 signs and make it legally off-limits. Otherwise, the company can fire you for violating their policy if they find out.
