New CHL online application: Update
As most folks know by now, the new online application for new and renewal CHL's is up and running on Texas Online. As with any entirely new system, I was holding my breath a bit hoping that there were not going to be any major glitches. Thankfully there were none and I'm really looking forward to the additional features that will be added in the coming months.
Apparently, when Texas Online launched the new system, they didn't get the SSL activated for the first page of the authorization. That was quickly fixed and everything is working fine. When DPS was notified, they made sure the "fix" was complete and contacted me so we could help get the word out, in case a few people couldn't use the system.
This new system is going to help both CHL's and instructors and I cannot over emphasize my appreciation for the working relationship we enjoy with DPS.

Re: New CHL online application: Update
I have a question about the new online application. I took my renewal class this past Sunday (May 2) and I have the affadavits and the CHL100 form. I went online and filled out all of the application information for renewal which included affadavits as well. Once I finalize and pay the fee (gotta wait a little bit for that part), will I need to send in the CHL100 form and the affadavits I got from my class? Or will this pretty much all be covered by the online app?
Thanks in advance,
Beardking

You do need to send the CHL-100, but not the affidavits. They were included in the new online application. Yeah, I know you didn't actually "sign" them but electronic submissions are done all the time. I efile most of pleadings and there are no signatures on them. They are converted from the word processing document into a pdf.beardking wrote:I have a question about the new online application. I guess I should confirm that your online application did include the affidavits, correct? They are supposed to be on the form.
In the coming weeks or months, instructors probably won't be issuing CHL-100's, as we will be able to certify you took the course by making an online entry.

Yessir, the affidavits were included in the online application. So, I'll just need to send in the CHL-100 and I guess a copy of the receipt from when I pay the fee online, correct?Charles L. I really like the new site and the additional level of detail on the application status. Great job by DPS and the CHL community.
Hopefully we can continue to work with them and improve the process as well as the method of communication.

DPS has your online payment history, so it's not really necessary to send a copy of the receipt.beardking wrote:Yessir, the affidavits were included in the online application. Re: New CHL online application: Update
With the new Online Application process, there is a Checklist that you print at the end. You are supposed to mail your attachments (i.e. CHL 100, or any other documents) in with that.
And the earlier post is correct, the new online affidavits are electronic, so no need to send in paper ones with Online Applications now.
Hope that helps.

So i am confused here...the affidavits are electronic ? and i guess they do not need to be signed in front of a Notary and signed by Notary?krofang wrote:With the new Online Application process, there is a Checklist that you print at the end. Re: New CHL online application: Update
I had recently changed my mailing address and wanted to let DPS (CHL Department) know of the change for communication purposes, like when it’s time for renewal or what ever communication they might mail out. We get our mail via PO Box not fiscal address. Even though I did not need a new card issued, I was told to fill out a form CR70 and a check for $25 and it would be taken care of. I was told it could not be done over the phone or on line. This was several weeks ago. I was very exited to find out with the new website, I was able to change my mailing address at no charge in just a few clicks! Savings is a box of ammo!! So other than the one or two days of unsecure form information they had, thumbs up to the new site from me. Now if I can just get the DL Department to follow suit, well that’s another box of shells.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. John Wayne

The new Online Application, released May 1st, allows you to use the electronic affidavits which utilize e-Notarizaton. If you had applied Online prior to May 1st OR if you fill out a Paper application now; yes, you would fill out paper affidavits and have them notarized.
The e-Notary feature is a nice perk for those of us choosing to apply Online now.
