What is the point of CHL?

Yeah, I'm off in the other complex, Bldg 500. We are a multi-level cube farm. I've never seen the guards here perform any searches, but apparently they did it diligently following 9/11, so I know its not off the table.

I figured it's just not worth it. Whether they'll have the local PD arrest me or not isn't the only concern. Having a firearm on company premises automatically flags you and that will come up on the security clearance renewal.

The only solution would be a hidden compartment in the car. :)

Thats kinda what I was talkin about when I posted before about searching car, I really dont think they can search your car without warrant. Unless they have reasonable cause by seeing something out of the ordinary, seeing mag, bullets, holster,etc... Maybe we could get a LEO to chime in on the subject.

Why bother with the time and expense of getting a CHL when so many places are "off limits"? For example, the mall closest to me is marked with 30.06 signs. My company's employee handbook says you are not allowed to have ANY weapons anywhere on company property, including the parking lot or at any company sponsored event. (however, "weapon" is not defined anywhere - so I don't even know if I am breaking company rules by having a pocket knife on me).

Doesn't feel like there are many places I CAN carry except back and forth to the range. whoo hoo!

He doesn't need a CHL to have a gun in his home to protect from intruders.
Having said that, I do see the value of a CHL. (Obviously, as I have mine and value it.)
I, too, have to walk a thin line while at work. Although many of my colleagues know that I am pro Second Amendment, and some know that I like to shoot, they do NOT know that I keep a gun in my car while on campus, as is permitted by law.
I suspect that if anyone ever found out, the powers that be would ask me not to have it in my vehicle. This would count as verbal notice, so I just don't say anything.
In my case, they probably couldn't fire me. I don't recall signing anything. (If I did so years ago and don't remember, that's another story.) I'm union, and the representation is excellent. Unless I signed something, they have no grounds for termination.

OP, did you sign anything, thus acknowledging that you have been told not to bring a weapon on site? If so, I see your concern.
If you didn't, I recommend installing some type of safe in the trunk of your car or behind the seat of your truck. Keep weapon there while on company property. Unless they do random searches, no one will know unless you tell them.

The thing about having a CHL is that you never know where you'll need a gun. Susanna Gratia Hupp didn't suspect she would need one in Luby's one day. Luby's hasn't traditionally been the hang-out for the criminally motivated. Statistics were not on the side of her and her family one day, and she now wishes she had her gun with her.

I'm not a lawyer, but we were told in our CHL class that if you were to be attacked on your way to or from work (no stops in between), your employer would be liable since they would not allow you to protect yourself. Would someone more knowledgable chime in?

Did your instructor provide a civil law that proves that or a case precedent?

He did not. I take it with a very small grain of salt since we are self-employed and we allow ourselves to carry :)
