OC Story on Fox 4 Tonight @ 9PM
Just saw a commercial on channel 4 for a story they're going to run tonight at 9 about OC in Texas.
They teased it by saying that it'd be hotter than the show Hells Kitchen.
Should be interesting to see how they report it and what side they take.

Re: OC Story on Fox 4 Tonight @ 9PM
Let me guess. "An aggressive lobby group is pressuring the legislature to pass an open carry bill. Open carry would allow anyone to carry weapons in plain sight anywhere in Texas, returning the state to the days of the wild, wild west when everyone carried a gun and gunfights on mainstreet were an everyday occurrence. Experts agree that open carry increases the likelihood that innocent people will die in shootouts. Proponents of the bill claim it's their Constitutional right and the state should not interfere with that right. But many people believe that openly carrying pistols is unnecessary in a society where professional police forces protect us from crime."

I'm not betting against the eagle!
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Re: OC Story on Fox 4 Tonight @ 9PM
They talked about campus carry more than open carry. They had the Brady Bunch rep on and a Texas Representative from Garland who plans on introducing the campus carry bill in the next session. They had the typical back and forth between the two sides. They mentioned the wild west as I predicted. One part of the segment had the reporter talking while a lot of shooting was going on. You couldn't hear a thing he said. I thought that was rather odd and wondered if they did it on purpose, but the in-studio reporter pointed it out and said they needed to not do that in the future. They also interviewed a student against campus carry and a student for campus carry and got sound bites from both of them.Hoi Polloi wrote:Anyone want to give a summary for those of us who didn't see it?
I found the segment hard to follow and wasn't really sure what the point of the story was. Maybe that's because I'm old.

Re: OC Story on Fox 4 Tonight @ 9PM
OC'ing has worked well in the states that allow it and has not proved to cause any unnecessary escalation in crime. There has also yet to be any incidents that an OC'er was targeted first in a crowd(that I know of anyways). I OC'd in Ohio as often as I could, it got me into many conversations(none of which ever turned ugly) and got quite a few people to the range and interested in shooting. I always uncovered my pistol when i entered my car and put on my safety belt, that way if I needed it I could get to it. It was nice being able to get out and pump my gas and go inside and purchase something to wet my whistle without having to worry about people freaking out or calling LEO's on me.
Most of the time it wasn't a civilian that caused any issues with OC, it was 'uninformed' LEO's. The issue was that when people would call in to report a man with a gun the dispatcher would ask all the wrong questions. Instead of asking what the man was doing with the gun, or is it holstered, or do you believe he has committed a crime, they would freak out and call a unit and say we have a male/female with a gun, go check it out!
If the dispatcher would have asked the right questions and told the caller that what the person was doing was perfectly legal we would have had no issues. I was stopped several times because of scared callers. If you guys would like some good examples of people getting harassed and illegal detained let me know. I know quite a few people from Ohio that had filed suit and won because of it. I can get you the videos and audio files and post some links up. If you see someone OC'ing in Ohio you can be pretty sure that they know the Ohio O.R.C very well and they probably are carrying a copy of it, along with the Ohio AG's booklet about the legality of OC.
I can't say for sure whether OC would work well in Texas, but I know one thing for sure, it couldn't hurt.

Fox 26 (Houston) also had several sections of the broadcast relating to "Gun Control". They mentioned the drop in crime after passing the CHL in TX. Showed GW BUsh signing the CHL legislation and had Dan Patrick and St Rep Sinfronia Thompsom (D) from Houston, both talking about the reduction/prevention of crime due to CHL. They said that those who carry are actually protecting those who don't.MedicMan218 wrote:Just saw a commercial on channel 4 for a story they're going to run tonight at 9 about OC in Texas.

Had interviews with people on the streets with some pro 2A and some antis. Also interviewed Michael Berry and David Jones. Mentioned the two recent cases here where guns were used to protect. The boy who used his dads, a cop, "assault rifle" to shoot an intruder and the two ladies who were abducted and sexually molested where the brother of one, a CHL holder, shot the rapist.
They also had a section on the increase of women buying guns and getting CHLs. The babe reporter mentioned that she was a little skittish when a relative bought a gun recently, but said that it was her right to buy a gun.
One thing that bothered me was at the end they said that when CHL's are stopped for a traffic violation that they should expect a longer stop. That the cops would approach the car tentatively and would call for backup before approaching. Total bull.
They had a poll on how many people had guns in their houses. 83% Yes, 17% No.
Looks like this FOX broadcast was different from the other one mention in the other post. No mention of open or campus carry. I DVR'ed the broadcast. If I have a chance in the next couple of days I will posted somewhere.

I watched this last night also. I was concerned when I saw that Michael Berry was our spokesperson. I listen to his show pretty often and I know he is not afraid to make statements that tend to step on toes. I thought he did an excellent job last night though. David Jones seemed to be channeling Sarah Brady.JJVP wrote:Fox 26 (Houston) also had several sections of the broadcast relating to "Gun Control". I couldn't believe what they said about traffic stops. Basically they described a felony stop and said if you are a chl holder you can expect a felony stop.

I thought that overall they did a fair job. There where only two people who came across as idiots, David Jones and the clearly clueless Asian lady who had been jogging.
