Carrying at Church

Today, I carried in Church this for the first time in my life. The Elders, Deacons, my father and several members that are LEO, Active and Retired Military carry. I have never really been comfortable with carrying in church. It feels kinda silly to think about it now but I don't know why I thought that. I have not been to my parents church in years and was home before school starts for me on Tuesday. It's been five years and everyone still remembers and acts like I had never left. Everyone was in a huging mood, which made me nervous because I did not want people to freak out. I must have made it through a hundred hugs and then our Preacher had to give me a great big bear hug. He noticed and pulled me off to the side and asked me "What are you carrying" and I replied "My German made friend and eight of his American made cousin's." He quickly showed me his Sig 220R Carry in his shoulder holster and I showed him my Sig 220 in my C-Tac IWB. He said "If any Wolves try coming and hurting this flock, they will find Wolves in sheep clothing waiting for them!" I might have to go more often during trips home or on school break.

Always carried in church (since it's been legal anyway). Since we moved, we have sorta been shopping for a church that 'fits' us. The one we tried today was nice, great folks - but during the prayer for the people, the minister asked for an end to the gun violence. Fair enough and a noble sentiment - except she added that all guns need to be destroyed. The logic that just the presence of guns on the planet causes gun violence turned me away. We'll keep looking.

I just received my plastic a few weeks ago and I immeadiately started carrying to church (and everywhere esle). I run the AV equipment at a very small Baptist church that just celebrated it's 1st anniversary. This is the huggingest (is that a word?) bunch you've ever seen, and I know that hands have bumped against my gun in it's IWB holster. So far, no one has noticed, or if they have, they haven't cared to mention it. Of course, about the first thing I did when I got my license was to go show it to my pastor and music minister. Both of them are planning on getting their CHLs soon, so I know they don't mind me carrying at church.

Also, Jesus said, "Luke 11:21 "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own homestead, his possessions are undisturbed"(Luke 11:21 NAS)

We attend a fairly large popular church in our area. This was a prime motivator for getting my CHL. Especially after the recent church shootings. I usually sit on the main aisle towards the back, with my wife and 3 kids to my right. What do I do if some nutcase walks in with a gun and proceeds down the aisle? Pray?

You might be surprised to find how many of us preachers carry in the pulpit! Churches tend to be very vulnerable places that tend to attract desperate people.
BTW, since you mention "elders and deacons" am thinking that you may be at a church of Christ. If so (even if not so, lol) I preach for a church of Christ and carry at every service. I was preaching a gospel meeting at a church, and there was to be a visitor that the local preacher felt nervous about. He asked me that evening prior to services, "Are you carrying tonight?" I said "like always." He just said "good." The first church established in Masterson, TX was finally started with the help of a gun. The cowboys did not want a church because that would mean the bars and saloon girls and gambling might have to stop. Every preacher that came was run out of town. One week, new preacher came to town who announced he would be holding church services that Sun at one of the local establishments. Someone warned him "The Jones boys plan to wait till your in the pulpit, lasso you, jerk you out of the pulpit, tie you up and tar you and put you on the train." Preacher just said "That so?" Sun came, he pulled his frock coat back, pulled out a pistol, cocked it and laid it on the pulpit top. Church was established. Now THAT is church discipline!
