This is actually my biggest concern. It happens more than you think. One of my CHL students messed up after getting his plastic and failed to show his license when he got pulled over. The poor rookie cop was so freaked out that he cuffed him and stuffed him because as he said. "it was a felony to not display the license" . We know that is not true, and in fact the penalty for not displaying has been removed all together.

Wow, I can't believe I got everybody ALL riled up by saying to be careful and posting the Statute. I guess I am supposed to assume that everyone knows all the rules . If that's the case then great. :patriot: Carry on.

I for one like the discussions, it clarifies and refreshes the feeble mind. I try to get a printout of the stautes every legislative season to see what has changed. But discussions seem to drill it in and clarify misunderstandings. :cheers2: :thumbs2:

God bless a place where someone can say there's a gun in her purse, in a public place, without having someone panic, and people who are comfortable saying such things. To remove the stigma of guns, people have to be exposed to the idea that normal, everyday, people have guns. Their neighbors, people they see in the store, most of them good people, are firearms owners. They're not out there with Bubba and Billy Bob getting drunk and firing their guns into the air while yelling "YEE HAA!" Nor are they out robbing convenience stores or doing drive-by shootings at playgrounds. Regular people. Firearms owners. Some of them CHL holders. Some of them are actually carrying guns. And they're not bothering anyone.
mgood, yes a am a city dweller. In fact a live in a very liberal part of town (close to work, not because I necessarily agree with 'em). Democrat signs outnumber Republican signs about 30 to 1 when I am driving around here. I shake my head sadly every time I pass one of those Bill White yard signs... Being the liberal bastion that the Heights is, I am concerned that "educated" people will overreact if they find out I am carrying.

Everyone's not really riled up. They were just adding their input. What ended up happening to your student? I hope someone straightened the officer out before he was taken to the station.

The signs that most people see were all that was required before 30.06. Yeah, I get a chuckle too. That is what is still on my doctor's building. Right on by it I go if I know I'm not going to be taking my shirt off.

Keith B, would you mind disclosing the hospital near you that does not post 30.06? Plano Presby posts, argh!
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

http://www.texas3006.com/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a fairly current place to check for, or add, a valid 30.06 posting.

Naturally he was sh..tn bricks till a senior officer showed up and told him he wouldn't be going to jail. It was quite an ordeal, fortunately it ended well...except for siting in the back of a patrol car for 30 minutes. I told him he deserved it for not showing his CHL since I had told him and all of the students in his class to always display even if they had no handgun with them. :smash:

Thanks for all the posts especially the ones that refresh my memory about the need to post 30.06 at hospitals. I always make a point of checking signs on the doors of businesses now that I have my CHL. I see some really strange signs ... I'll snap a couple of pictures of some of the stranger ones and post them somewhere on this forum. Stay tuned ...

Amusement parks, Hospitals, Shools, and establishments that gain 51% of profits from onsite consumption of alchohol.
That is incorrect. Hospitals MUST post 30.06.

Sec. 31. NOTICE REQUIRED ON CERTAIN PREMISES.
•(a) A business that has a permit or license issued under Chapter 25, 28, 32, or 69, Alcoholic Beverage Code, and that derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption shall prominently display at each entrance to the business premises a sign that complies with the requirements of Subsection (c) of this section.
•(b) A hospital licensed under Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or a nursing home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, shall prominently display at each entrance to the hospital or nursing home, as appropriate, a sign that complies with the requirements of Subsection (c) of this section.
•(c) The sign required under Subsections (a) and (b) of this section must give notice in both English and Spanish that it is unlawful to carry a handgun on the premises. The sign must appear in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height and shall be displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.
I think I know the answer...but I'll ask anyway. What if they do not post EVERY entrance?

I had to spend considerable time in St. Luke's at the medical center in Houston this past weekend. I saw no sign at the primary entrance. But I had looked it up on Texas3006.com before going and it said they were posted, so I looked for the notice when I had a few minutes. I finally found it on what I would consider a side door about 30 feet to the right of the main entrance. There may be other doors with the notice, but I quit looking after finding that one.

Now suppose I'd not looked it up on-line before going, and had looked all around the main door before going in with my CCW...and then had been found out by a staff member or one of the officers I saw inside? If I was then informed no CHL allowed, I would immediately say, "Thank you for telling me, I did not see any notice and I'm leaving right now" and proceed outside. But if I ended up having to get bailed out and hire the lawyer, would it be a defense to prosecution that they did not post the notice at EVERY entrance, especially on what seems to be the main one?

If I accidently entered a 30.06 establishment, and somehow got caught, I would certainly try that defense. It was not posted where I'd notice it, therefore not in a "conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public." Whether or not it would work, I don't know. Hope I don't have to find out. I would, as soon as I got out on bail, go around and take pictures of all the entrances with particular emphasis on the one I used.

I grew up in Hockley county, I carried rifles and shotguns in the truck my whole life. I realize I am new to this forum, but I personally don't get the "state secrect" about even having a CHL that seems to be the prevalent word of wisdom here. Can someone explain? Should I start a new thread asking that question?

Sometime, you can fired if your employer "discovered" that you are carrying. My close friends and some of my family know that I do carry. Others have no business in said matter.
Of course any adversary better not know that you are armed. Or, you might find yourself out gunned.

I had the same problem with my 4 year old Grandsone who blurted it out in Walmart after he ran into it on my side. People were around to hear him but no-one said anything. So when we got home we had a little talk. Showed him the License and explained to him that keeping it a secret was the law. He is almost 5 now and I have not had an incedent with him since. Just sit the wife down and explain it to her.

Anti gun people are everywhere anymore. But for those of us who live in the suburbs near major urban areas, its even more prevalent. Being outed or even admitting to having a gun can lead to very tense moments.
I'm a recent Texas Immigrant. Illegal alien.....from Virginia :rolll
VA has open carry, and I've been around a few folks who are absolutisists, open carrying anywhere they are permitted to, 24/7. DC suburbs of Northern Virginia. One friend entered a starbucks. Dressed well enough in a polo and nice jeans, but has very long hair and a few tattoos. Not the police look. Open carrying. Someone looked up from their double half half extra shot soy tall latte and Washington Post long enough to yell "OH MY GOD HE'S GOT A GUN!" He was able to explain its legal in VA and calm everyone down, but was nearly chased out of the Starbucks with pitchforks and torches.

Unless you live in the sticks, most of us are one gust of wind away from a "man with a gun" 911 call.

I had an accident and was carrying. As I was on the way to the ambulance, I told the officer I was carrying and if he would bring it to the hospital? He said he would and brought it into the ex-ray room and gave it to me. Unloaded ofcourse. He told the doctor I had a license and it was ok and that the gun was unloaded. After we were done, the doctor wanted to see it, "admire it".
