Indeed, it would be quite nice. I suggest talking to your elected US congressional representatives. TX can't do anything with regards to federal law.drjoker wrote:Anyways, so, what's the verdict? My post office is NOT posted. Can I carry? I usually check my p.o. box at 4 a.m. in the morning due to irregular work hours. It would be nice if I could carry.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Re: Carrying at the Post Office
[soapbox]I don't find this funny. Even if this were an issue of addiction or abuse, advocating separation, protection, and counseling would be the appropriate measures for strangers on internet forums. If obtaining a divorce is then determined to be in the family's best interest following that point, it can be pursued with the support of those in their lives who know all of the details and are able to help them coordinate for their needs.tacticool wrote:and if your wife and lawyer are in cahoots, get a new layer to handle the divorce.gigag04 wrote:New wife IMO.
It is disgusting to jokingly encourage a guy to get a divorce because his wife told him to listen to his attorney and not carry in a post office, opining that it is her opinion that guns are more trouble than they're worth when he has to retain an attorney in order to go to the fair or the post office. And I sure hope it was a joke! I understand some of the history that's been posted about their relationship here from the perspective of one of them over their disagreement on firearms and how many would not handle disagreements in their marriages the way either of them have done so, but nothing here rises to the level of strangers joking about getting a divorce over it.
Can you imagine him printing out this thread and showing his wife tonight? This is a real person being discussed, potentially without her knowledge. A woman who is unable to defend herself, whose husband is hanging her out to dry--in this instance for absolutely nothing wrong--and to have this being said about her here... and not only is it approved, but more jump in and attack her, going so far as to call for completely getting rid of this woman through divorce. It turns my stomach.
You are men. You are called to greatness and you should remind yourselves and each other of that frequently. Call him up to greatness and support him in acting with charity, compassion, gentleness, grace, maturity, and nobility when dealing with those he disagrees with, with women and children, and especially with his wife who should have the very best of him.[/soapbox]

Re: Carrying at the Post Office
It was a joke for sure, I apologize if it came across as anything else. As a good fearing man, working through pre marital issues with my own fiance, I get it for sure.
That said, there is a common vein of thought through the OP's posts of disagreement with attorney and spouse. If he is getting better advice (IMO) from strangers on the internet forum, than from those two sources...all is not well. If guns are going to be a passionate hobby of the OP, than he needs to work it out with his wife and find a new attorney.

Er... I certainly hope that I'm NOT "hanging her out to dry" because she does read my posts. And "in cahoots" doesn't mean anything tawdry. I'm just saying that they both (lawyer and wife) tell me not to carry every time I ask them about it. People in America don't take marriage seriously enough. 50-60% of marriages end in divorce. Most African-American babies are born without a father. etc, etc. Marriages are hard work. Why? Because you are DIFFERENT people so you will have DIFFERENCES. Thanks for defending me, HP, but I think those guys were kidding (I hope). When I meet y'all at the next social, DPC shoot, etc, I'll buy y'all a round of drinks.Hoi Polloi wrote:[soapbox]It is disgusting to jokingly encourage a guy to get a divorcetacticool wrote:and if your wife and lawyer are in cahoots, get a new layer to handle the divorce.gigag04 wrote:New wife IMO.

Someone needs to lighten up....sheesh. Major problem with the world today is everybody just looking to be offended. Learn to make fun and take it when you are made fun of as well. Dr Joker is the only person here who remotely should be "offended" and the good Dr didnt appear to be. He can fight his own battles.

Pretty easy to test w/o packing. Just slide two or three small sized cresent wrenches in your pockets (or something else that would not otherwise normally be used as a weapon - i.e. avoid a hammer) and enter away ...wcalvert wrote:I agree with this. I'm not disputing it, but when and where and why?
ours does, but i do not think they are metal detectors. I think they are the standard merchandise detection stuff as they have merchandise laying around.

You aren't offended, I am amused, Dr. Joker is OK, all others have had their say... it seems like a good conclusion.rm9792 wrote:How? I am not offended. Re: Carrying at the Post Office
OK. So a lot of the post office carry threads seem to focus on whether the "other lawful (purposes)" part of 18 USC 930 can be construed to allow carry in the "facility" or "building"... so let's say it DOESN'T.
The next question is whether 18 USC 930 definition of Federal Facilities applies to Post Offices. It is possible that it does. If so...carry in the post office buildings would be a crime (a federal misdemeanor, though a serious one w/ 1 yr jail/$10,000 fine)... if they were posted... which most that I have seen ARE signs reference 18 USC 930. However the PROPERTY...like parking lots, etc. is not included in that statute.
Then there is the postal regulation in the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) prohibiting "weapons" on postal property. Regulations must have have an enabling statute. For the CFR relating to post offices, the law is 39 USC 410 which is not a federal criminal statute. The CFR does provide a penalty for violating its regulations, which is up to a $50 fine and 30 days in jail which can be imposed by a federal magistrate. I'm no expert in criminal law, but this seems more like a civil penalty...

Re: Carrying at the Post Office
I think my post office manager is reading this thread because it wasn't posted last week, but it IS posted now. Ugh, looks like the post office and even the parking lot is off limits. I may have to risk towing and park across the street then walk to the post office. Ugh, risk the small possibility of a big felony or risk the big possibility of a smaller tow fee? Ugh, looks like I'll park across the street and risk the tow. I'm gonna donate to the legal fund of that feller suing the post office for the right to carry. I suggest that you do the same. BTW, who is that feller and how do I donate?

I guess my question would be, just how would anyone know there was a weapon in your vehicle if it is concealed? There must be probable cause for any search.
