Re: Carrying at the Post Office
It is ironic that one of the places you need a gun the most is the post office?!?!? People have been known to "go postal" at the post office.
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. - Thomas Jefferson

Fear not at my wife's post office. I check her each day before going to work and have to put up with the unruley patrons... Not you Marc, she likes you. GRIN

And you thought America was a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.

Under 39 CFR 232 a $50 fine & up to 30 days in jail can be imposed by a US magistrate. It's possible that it is considered a civil penalty. My opinion it would count as a class C misdemeanor under Texas law and not affect your CHL.pt145ss wrote:Ok...so if they do not covict you under 18 USC 930, then they will convict under 39 CFR 232. Is that a misdemeanor? How will that effect your CHL?ScottDLS wrote:I don't read it exactly that way. I don't think that the CFR can overrride the elements of the crime defined in the statute (18 USC 930), which defines "facility" as a building and not the property. So I don't think you could be convicted under 18 USC 930 for having a gun in the parking lot.
There is a penalty defined in the CFR for violating postal regulations... and it is $50 fine/up to 30 days in jail that can be imposed by a federal magistrate.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

This may be off topic, but how often do you go in the post office? Me, once or twice a year or every ten years to renew my passport.

Other than to mail in my CHL stuff, I can't actually remember the last time I was there.WildBill wrote:This may be off topic, but how often do you go in the post office? Me, once or twice a year or every ten years to renew my passport.

Well I'm a bit different here. I go to the post office at least once or twice a week mailing paperwork packets to clients and to the FAA.

Re: Carrying at the Post Office
I rarely go to the PO. Once or twice a year to mail stuff to my in-laws in the Phillipines.
Re: Carrying at the Post Office
Our endless discussion of carrying at the post office won't last all that much longer as they're going the way of the buffalo.
Instead of trying to compete with greater efficiency, improved timeliness, lower cost and the other free enterprise systems responses to competition, the Post Office has simply gotten worse...
The end of this institutional awful is something their management can look at in the rear view mirror of history and wonder why they didn't get their stuff together when they had the chance.
UPS / Fed-Ex - E-mail/ Internet Banking & Bill Paying etc., is eliminating the once required need the Post Office provided.
I'll be a little sad when this once admired institution is gone, but it's time is overdue...

Off topic, I know -- but I'm gonna post it anyway!
Another "facility" that continues to get funding that is totally unnecessary is -- the public library. Totally replaced by the internet. Just my opinion, so flame away. Some people used to lament the passing of the buggy-whip, too.

So, get a box at a UPS store -- they can even email you when a package arrives.USA1 wrote:5 days a week. I keep a PO Box there for business purposes.WildBill wrote:This may be off topic, but how often do you go in the post office? Me, once or twice a year or every ten years to renew my passport.

I've had that PO Box for 14 years and mostly use it just to pick up checks.

Re: Carrying at the Post Office
It is a ashame but the management at the Post Office is driving people away. Trust me, My Wife DOES NOT LIKE ASKING YOU ALL THOSE QUESTIONS, each and every time. They MAKE her do that even though she knows you are a repeat customer who does the same thing everytime you come up. Are you tired of that? Then everytime they do that, ask for the post master and COMPLAIN!!!! OK Off topic, just trying to help my wife here.Abraham wrote:Our endless discussion of carrying at the post office won't last all that much longer as they're going the way of the buffalo.

The post office is not going away but it's service will become less needed as Abraham notes. there is way more going on there than you know. I hear it every night and glad to let her unload her woes. Business models are affecting them and theirs is not really working I think. We will see
On topic, I do go there at times to pick up my wife for lunch etc and that is an issue for me. I do wish the Post Master General would address it as a federal position that would then give state law etc a solid stance to see how it works into the federal. My 2 cents. (please mail more and support my wifes' pension, thank you! )

Several insurance companies send me offers with "No postage necessary" envelopes.
Instead of shredding them, I enclose coupons (which came in junk mail) for stuff I'll never buy, but someone may want, and mail them to the insurance companies.
(I have several relatives retired from USPS)
Back to the topic, I don't carry in post offices anyway.. I don't go to post offices; I just put the flag up on my mailbox and buy stamps at the grocery store.
