Speeding Ticket :(

#1

Post by wrinkles »

On my way back home from Midland TX. I go stopped by a Pecos county deputy. I was doing 76 in 65. I was carrying my XD40 on my left hip IWB, when he asked for DL I gave him my DL and my CHL. He looked at both then looked at my CHL. Gave me back my CHL, didn't say a word. I put the CHL back in my wallet and he proceeded to write me up a ticket. He asked for me to get out of the car, thought he was going to pat me down or hand cuff me but it was so that he could explain the ticket and so I could sign it then told me to slow down from now on and have a nice day.

Oh well, at least it wasn't in a construction zone with workers present.

Yep, still 169.00. We had been in Midland buying Xmas presents. Mine was in the back, after the wife saw the amount she said "turn around we're taking you present back." I think she was joking.

I have had my CHL since may and have not been pulled over, yet. I am terrified that the officer will react in the opposite way. Although getting the ticket stinks, at least the CHL interaction went went fine.

No need to be terrified. The LEO's that pulled me over were very cool. I know there have been some bad experiences but I just immediately admit to speeding, as a matter of fact the last one which I wont publically admit how fast I was going, when the LEO walked up the window I said, "I was running a little fast tonight wasnt I" He said yes, took my CHL and my DL came back and said slow it down there is a lot of deer out here. $100. Do I win for the lowest?

Honestly, If I received a $500 ticket, my wife would kick me out of the car and make me thumb my way home.

You got me beat. I paid $125 for my '49 Plymouth in 1959.

Ouch! Aren't you a LEO? I gotta ask...were you on the giving end or the receiving end?

In regard to the original post, CHL is not an automatic exemption from getting a ticket. With that said, my experience has been that if you're 10 mph over the posted limit or less, you're more likely to get a warning if you have a CHL. Your chances of getting a warning are better with the DPS than local LEOs, and all bets are off if you are beyond 10 mph over.

I know you guys are commiserating about traffic tickets and all. Here is some bad news: The last ticket I got was August 16, 1977. How can I remember that? That's the day Elvis died. When I heard the announcement on the radio, everybody on the Stemmons Expressway in Dallas stopped suddenly (I suppose they were devestated by the news???) and I tagged a pickup in front of me. No damage to his truck, minor damage to my car. Got a ticket that, as best I remember, was $25. All that to say all this being stopped and showing your CHL is foreign territory to me. :hurry:

It really was my wife. She said she was either in the back or the front of a row of several cars. The ticket was for 82 in a 55 through a construction zone with workers present. She said she didn't see any workers either. We paid the ticket and she had deferred adjudication for 2 years. Her license would have been suspended for 6 months if she would have gotten another ticket within 2 years. Defensive driving class was not an option. This was about 6-7 years ago. She doesn't even go 3 mph over now.
