What to do? I am going to Kalifornia

My fiance and I are going to go a weekend trip to San Diego next month. Don't know what to do about carrying though. Since I got my CHL, I've carried almost every day. Its almost to the point that if I am not carrying, I feel debilitatingly unsafe. What to do? Can I get a temp permit from the State or something?

But why would you need a gun in California? They have such strict gun laws. Surely the criminals don't have guns!! :?

Are you flying? That just about precludes taking your gun.

The flying is the easy part. It is having the gun in Kali where the problem arises.

Flying with guns is very simple, anyone can do it, and it takes like 5 extra minutes.

San Diego is a GREAT town. Keep dreaming about carrying though- Kali doesn't even isssue permits to non-residents, let alone recognize out of state permits.

If you take your gun to Cali make sure you don't take any mags that hold over 10 rounds. Hicaps are still a no-no there.
I have done it a few times but a friend recently informed me of this. oops.
If the TSA person in CA was real gung ho you would be "detained" when you tried to fly home.
When I was asked by TSA why I had brought a pistol with me to CA I just told them I brought it so I could go target shooting with friends and that was the end of it.

If you are going to Kalifornia there is only one thing to do. Stay in Texas. There is nothing in K important or interesting enough go there defenseless. If friends or family are there then holler, scream, plead & beg them to get out.

I lived near Frisco (they really hate that word!) for 8.5 years. I travel to LA and SF areas several times each year. TSA at LAX is the biggest PITArse. Seems the TSA xray dude near Continental) has an addiction to fondling your firearms. He must luv the smell of Hoppes #9. John Wayne is cool, and Ontario is much better. Stick to the smaller airports and your travel will be easier if you bring the pistolas. Since you are heading to SD, might I suggest Orange County Airport.

Take your handguns. I have actually had more problems in my hotel room than on the streets. Seems like the jerks that like to party ALWAYS reserve the room next door to me. In addition, the hotel seldom seems to have the personnel with enough sand to enforce the rules. In Kali, your hotel room is considered your residence, but forcible entry must be apparent for you to use self defense once they are in your room. If they are armed, give them a double tap to center mass.

You have to make up your own mind regarding carry. Remeber, they have not caught the perps shooting on the freeway. Better judged by 12 than carried by six.

Well, since it looks like your carrying there in San Dog is a bust...

I'd still take it with you, just keep it legal for them while your in transit, and keep it ready (and secure) when you get to where your staying...

There is one place you'll have to find...I'm sure its still there, because sailors keep it open...

Its a little sandwich shop on Rosecrans Ave. that is right up the hill from the Naval Training Center (main gate) there...I wish I could remember the name...crud...

But if you find it, you won't be sorry...Its close to a bunch of stuff you'll want to visit anyway...

Run over to the park on the tip of Point Loma...Its a great view...Its not too far either...

San Diego Recruit Training Center - December 1972 to April 1973 Basic training

Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center Pacific (Harbor Drive) - April 1973 to March 1974. Submarine Sonar school.

There was a burger joint off Harbor drive that used to guarantee the burger would weigh 3/4 pound after cooking. They had the best sweet pickles I have evr eat. Beer was cold too.

Water at Ocean Beach was cold too.

I know juries may take a dim view of folks with blades, but 12 judging is better than 6 carrying and all of that.

You might also want to think about your improvised weapon options, unarmed combatives and the fabled Nike defense. Also, I agree with many of you on keeping the blaster & Klinton klips in the hotel room.

Good luck w/ everything, esp TSA (whichever airport you use). And please post an "after-action" report.

I took my wife on a trip to San Dog a few years ago...It has changed a bunch since I left in '89...

It was a funny observation she made that everytime we left the hotel down on "E" street down towards Chula Vista, that we had to go up the highway to 32nd Street and then head out to points of interest...I didn;t even realize Iwas doing that until she said something...

I guess my navigation needed an embedded datum starting point...
