Mailed chl checklist to wrong address...

#1

Post by brandrum »

I realized today that yesterday I mailed my online app. checklist to the wrong address. I mailed to the address that was on the envelope that my chl instructor gave us. After looking on my copies of the chl checklist I noticed that it was different. :mad5 Is this going to be a major time set back? What should I do?

One of the long time Instructors should be along.
That is a new one for me.

We all know how government works. That being said, the way I had the two addresses explained to me is this.

The address you mailed your packet to is the address that accepts payments by mail and then send the rest of your material to the next department.

The address you should have sent it to is the department that receives your material after the first department takes out the payment.

So, if I remember correctly and / or was told correctly, your application may be delayed a couple days as it went to the department that you should have bypassed. They will realize the error and forward it to the correct department.

Anyone else have a thought on this?

You can always call and explain your error….maybe they will have a more detailed answer for you. The number is 512-424-7293.

A couple weeks sounds like a long time. Did you mail it return receipt or with tracking?

No offense meant, but if the check list shows the address to send to, why would it be the instructors responsibility to show you that and be sure you were able carry that out?

I would think most instructors are aware of this…at least I am. I don't even give out paper applications in my class anymore because of the ease and increased efficiency of the online application. However, I can see this being an issue in rural areas.

I do provide them with a large blank envelope for the materials they take from class. Some use it to mail their materials to DPS and I make sure I instruct them to use the address that is printed on their online application receipt.

I made a copy of everything except pictures. I wonder if I were to get new pictures and over night another packet to the correct address would it just confuse things or make a difference?

The instructor gave us a packet with the address already on it. Yes, it's my mistake for assuming my instructor knew what he was doing but he is an instructor and has been almost since CHL's were legal in Texas so I though he had done this a few more times than I have and took it at face value.

I checked everything else on the list BUT the address. This was my mistake. I know. When you assume it makes an ass out of u and me.

As others above have said, it may cause a couple day delay, but if it were me, I would not send in a 2nd packet, as that could complicate things and in the end, if a 2 or 3 day delay is had, it would be that much of a delay to get a 2nd packet to them
