As long as you leave when you become aware of the 30.06 and/or receive proper notice. Otherwise, you are using the pages of this forum to advise another member to break the law.

Please. I didn't agree that it was OK to walk past a 30.06 sign simply because your gun is well concealed. My post spoke to finding yourself in the uncomfortable situation of realizing that you had unintentionally entered a posted building, unawares because the sign was not posted at the entrance, and then turning around and leaving, undiscovered, to fulfill your legal obligation to that sign once you've seen it. His post seemed to indicate that he thought it was OK to carry concealed past a 30.06 sign. If that's not what he meant, then let him tell me, and I will appropriately apologize for misinterpreting what he said. I just calls 'em like I see 'em.

The same set of facts now makes the person who violates the law guilty of two different misdemeanors at the same time. You can be charged with both criminal trespass by a license holder and unlawfully carrying in a prohibit place. I don't know if this added penalty helped make it more palatable to the legislators who were borderline on the issue and voted for this change or not, or if it was just the tactics used, or maybe even a sense of fairness (it only seems fair to require notices to make the place off-limits to me), but that is why the law gets so confusing sometimes. That old saw about not watching laws or sausage being made holds true for even reading the laws and understanding them.
Interesting! I've never thought of it that way. It was explained to me that 46.035(i) just made those places "just like" anyplace else. But indeed, if you violate a valid 30.06 sign on a hospital, you've now broken TWO laws. 30.06 AND 46.035(b)(4). Very Sneaky!
Unless it's a government owned hospital. Then only 46.035 is broken.

There are so many smart phones now (much more than 2007!) a quick reference card for off limits could be a 1 or 2 page pdf file instead of a business card. That would be good to give students to supplement the 70 page CHL-16 pdf file.

Quote: "And the law DID change, but it was in 2007 and it added section (i) in 46.035 that requires Hospitals, Churches and Amusement Parks (that meet the definition of an Amusement Park) to post 30.06 signs. You need to read further."

FWIW, that "2007" is only off by 10 years. That line item (i) was an amendment to 46.035 in 1997, the same year that Section 30.06 was added.

Oops, Freudian Slip on the date there Greybeard. Thanks for the correction. I guess like the spider said, 'Time's fun when your having flies.' LOL

Comprendo, Keith. ;-) Maybe more appropriately stated, it only took about 10 years for lots of people to recognize that a certain lady lawyer had been failing to mention that line item (i) (which also includes public meetings) in this century's instructor schools.

My best friend is a LEO. His words were, "Cops are the last guys to quote on the law."

Read the content of the 30.06 staute. it expressly allows CHL carry in hospitals/amusement parks unless it's posted with a 30.06.
Thanks!
