true, but those horror stories are generally spread by criminals. ;-)

Round Rock, and Williamson County for that matter ARE tough on crime. I live in Round Rock and these guys do take their job seriously, but not in a Gestapo fashion, just enforcin' the laws.

Granted, the old saying about Williamson County is "come for vacation, leave on probation" .. and that can be true for some, I've been here almost 15 years and every encounter I've had with them (including a few traffic stops) has been nothing but professional.
:iagree:
I also live in Round Rock.

I haven't had any issues with RRPD. I stood right behind a couple of Officers in... wait for it... Lonestar Bakery. (I won't say what they ordered.)
I was carrying, and doing my best not to act nervous. :biggrinjester:

Not yet, but we did move from the south to the north of RR.
Austin is getting to close for comfort... :tiphat:

Concealed Carry has been around for a long time Texas. As cops, we are trained to deal with it and familiar with the applicable laws. There is no need to be nervous and especially no need to be hostile. Personally, if you have a CHL and you are polite, I feel more comfortable dealing with you than I feel with the avg person because at least I know you have passed a background check, and you have enough patience to complete the paperwork. It's up to the individual officer if he wants to secure your firearm til he's done with his business. You'll get it back.

Frist off, welcome to the forum. :tiphat:

Unfortunately there are those LEO's that do not feel the same. Many are pro-CHL, but a few are not. Additionally, there are those in the middle who may not be against it, but still don't necessarily feel someone with a gun is going to be a good guy, even with a license. I also know many that do not know the laws pertaining to licensed concealed carry off the top of their head or are not up to date on changes in the laws. This is mainly because they very rarely deal with a CHL and don't have to reference the laws other than during a traffic stop. While i understand that a LEO can't know all of the laws verbatim in their heads (used to be one myself), they should at least be familiar enough to know that accidental exposure of the weapon or carrying in a unposted church or hospital is not an arrestable offense.

This I couldn't agree more with. Any LEO in Texas should either have electronic access to the Penal Code, CCP, Transportation Code, etc., or they should have an up-to-date hard copy in their vehicle. If I'm not sure about the applicable law, I "freeze the scene." In case of a CHL, this may mean securing a firearm. Then I look up the statute. If I still can't figure it out, I'll call a supervisor.

BTW, when I'm off-duty I am for all practical purposes a CHL holder, and I carry myself as such.

My advice to anyone with a CHL is to know the law but also to know the appropriate place for a discussion of the law, i.e. not the side of the road or looking down the barrel of an officer's duty weapon. If an officer needs to be educated on concealed carry, the best way to do it would be through his supervisor.

As of 11/02/2013, it is not permissible to carry at Dell Diamond. I attended a concert yesterday and there was more than one sign at each entrance indicating concealed carry is not allowed. I have no idea when this policy was put into effect.

Prohibited items:
Food
Beverages
Firearms

Also, large 30.06 signs were up at each entrance.

30.06 signs are not valid as the Dell Diamond is owned by the City of Round Rock, a government entity. It would be off limits during a Rock Hounds game or other professional sporting event, but a concert would not be enforceable under 30.06.

I wonder who put the signs up. Somebody should complain to the city.

That is the problem with a law that has no penalty. Im sure someone knows that they cannot post that sign by law but does so anyway due to the law having no teeth.

If they are wrong and somebody complains they will have to remove the sign.

Are there any bills pending in the Texas congress regarding inappropriate 30.06 signs being posted & penalties for such? (at city owned venues, etc.)

If there are no penalties such practices will continue - with the continued attitude by overzealous city government officials that defy what the law says exhibiting an attitude thats insists we'll post em anyway and haul you off to jail if you CHLers enter armed.

There was a bill that had a penalty for this, but it disappeared when the session ended and was not voted on. Any new legislation would have to be introduced in the 2015 session.
