Well, maybe he just didn't know what a chl looks like so he couldn't verify if its genuine. I used to be a bouncer and it would really tick people off sometimes when i would refuse Mexican IDs and passports as an age verification. They threw cans at me, threatened me, and cursed me but I wouldn't let them in because I have no way to verify documents with which I'm unfamiliar. Remember, these guys who work for WalMart get rudimentary training and probably have zero training on how to verify a CHL. They do work for minimum wage, you know.

Anyways, if a Wal Mart employee has a CHL, then he/she might accept your CHL as a photo ID. Try checking out in the sporting goods department.

Fed. min. wage is $7.25, most WM employees start above that and average $10+ after a few years even if they don't promote.

i have a new DL just issued in May, and the new DL and CHL look so much alike i'd bet WallyMart knucklehead wouldnt have told it apart from the other. Its funny i am an inch shorter on my DL and 20 pounds lighter on my CHL hahaha.. I lost some weight..

The new DL and CHL look almost identical in a quick glance. Sometimes I have to look hard to make sure I'm presenting the right plastic.

If asked for another ID I would have said I do not have one. If that is a problem I would ask for the manager. If the manager would not accept my drivers license, then they can keep their stuff. There is hardly anything in a Walmart that I could nit buy anywhere else. They don't have the total corner on Chinese products.

Then maybe I would go through the store and pick up as many small different items as I needed to fill a cart. Then go through check out. After they asked for my ID, I would say never mind I changed my mind and decided to shop somewhere else. Then walk out.

I had the same sort of thing happen at a bank once. I went to the bank the check was issued from to cash it, they wanted two forms of ID. I used my dl and chl and they wouldnt take it. Said they couldnt accept two forms of ID from the same issuing agency. I aslo tried to used my military ID to get cigs once and they wouldnt sell them to me. Said it had to be a valid Texas ID and showed me a sign on the wall that said that. I told him that this was a Geneva Convention ID and was good anywhere in the world but he wouldnt budge. So I gave him the tall man and left disgusted.

The guy was being a donkeys rear end. I used to work at wal-mart, and they accept any form of state, or government issued id. They do not specifically mention CHL in the training, but they do say "state ID' By definition they would have to accept something other than a DL, because not everyone has a DL, so they would be discriminating are they not? Sounds like if you wanted to, you could fight fire with fire depending on how worked up you want to get.

Not really. The kind of discrimination you are referring to are the protected classes defined by law. However if Walmart decides they only want to accept crayon drawings signed by your kid then that is their right, they are a private business. I agre that a CHL is a much better form of id than a TDL but it is up to Walmart.

The Bass Pro Shop in Bossier City routinely asks to see ID if you are paying with a credit card (good for them!)...and happily accepts your CHL as a photo ID!

That violates the merchant agreements they have with the credit card companies. (The asking for ID part, not the accepting a CHL part.)

How do you possibly prevent fraud if you cant ask for id???? That cant possibly be the case. I would think Visa would require ID.

The store doesn't really have to worry about whether the card is stolen because if Visa doesn't decline the transaction, they get paid anyway. What they are supposed to do is compare the signature to the one on the back of the card if they have any concern. Asking for ID is superfluous and useless. I can charge a $10,000 first class airline ticket (for someone else) to China over the phone, but I have to show my DL when I'm a pack of batteries at Best Buy... Why?

That's not entirely true. I've worked in the credit card processing industry and if a merchant accepts a stolen card, even if it isn't declined, the chargeback will go back to the merchant and they're stuck with it. Merchant agreements are very one sided in the bank and consumers favor.
