If it is worth spending some money get a lawyer to have a talk with
Whoever is in charge at your company and have the lawyer tell
the boss that he will be sued if he tries to enforce any company
rules concerning firearms that are against state law. Make sure the
lawyer doesn't identify his client to prevent retaliation. Companies
will usually back down if they think it will cut into their profits

I fail to see the point in asking for a copy of the CHL. People that carry under the MPA don't have anything to present. How does the employer plan to identify those individuals?
If the employer is going to ask one to identify then they should ask all to identify. Nothing in the law prohibits this conduct, but I fail to see the point

A lot of HR policies are pretty pointless. That doesn't mean you can ignore them and expect to keep your job.

but it doesnt mean just because they fire you they dont have to pay unemployment.tbrown wrote:A lot of HR policies are pretty pointless. That doesn't mean you can ignore them and expect to keep your job.
Re: SB 321 employer requesting license?
I'm not sure about that either. I think if you are terminated for cause (violating company policy) you are not eligible for unemployment. Being laid off does make you eligible.alvins wrote:but it doesnt mean just because they fire you they dont have to pay unemployment.tbrown wrote:A lot of HR policies are pretty pointless. In addition to the for cause comment by C-dub it's good to know how UI works. TWC pays the unemployment claims. Employers pay unemployment insurance premiums as a percentage of taxable wages. That percentage updates annually based on payouts but a large company probably won't notice any effect for one ex-employee. There's also minimum and maximum rates, so if an employer is already paying the maximum they won't see any rate increase if they fire you.alvins wrote:but it doesnt mean just because they fire you they dont have to pay unemployment.tbrown wrote:A lot of HR policies are pretty pointless. I intentionally chose to work for a company without any gun policies.

I do not WANT to and most of us do not WANT to become the TEST case but at some point "WE" Collectively will have to stand up. It may mean ONE of us, and then a few of us, and then all of us will have to stand up. But it will have to happen. The question is what do "WE" do in the mean time. You have to answer that question to yourself. But if you are going to meet the law and one day you are legal but have to face the HR person, what will you do. What will you say. What will YOU stand up for? I understand we all need our jobs. Just commenting for thought, nothing more.
these issues have been brought up and discussed to death. Nothing has changed. we still do not know. One day the thread will start this is what happened to me. I hope that thread takes us to a positive place or shows it has already started. Just saying...

I think it is worth checking out Tom Gresham's Truth Squad and the "no shrug policy". When you see or hear something wrong, you don't shrug, you do something about it. A good example is the habit of some physicians to ask whether or not you have a gun in your home. This is particularly popular with pediatrician's in Florida who then often refuse to take your child as a patient (found to be illegal, and then overturned in the last week or so). Tom's reaction? You tell the doc that it is a border violation, an area they have no right to intrude. Quite simply, NOYB.

If any one of our doctor's were to ask this I would ask them why are they asking. There would be some discussion, but in the end, I'd probably just thank them and explain that I'll be finding a new doctor and just leave.

When I go to see a new doctor, and I have fired more than one, I take a variety of forms with me. One of my forms requests the doctor's reason for asking the question, what they intend to do with the information and what their qualifications to serve as a consultant on gun safety are.C-dub wrote:If any one of our doctor's were to ask this I would ask them why are they asking. I don’t see what the big controversy in Florida is about.C-dub wrote:If any one of our doctor's were to ask this I would ask them why are they asking. There would be some discussion, but in the end, I'd probably just thank them and explain that I'll be finding a new doctor and just leave.
Doctor: “Do you have any guns at home”? Gun owner: No I “don’t believe in guns”. Problem solved.
If all gun owners did this it would make the doctor’s question pointless.
There is no law against lying to a doctor and as an added benefit, if doctors thought some patients were doing this, it would make a few of them crazy.

God Bless America, and please hurry.

That would ultimately be my answer if I answered at all. However, as soon as this conversation takes place I think there will be a trust issue one or both ways if the doc thinks I'm lying.VoiceofReason wrote:I don’t see what the big controversy in Florida is about.C-dub wrote:If any one of our doctor's were to ask this I would ask them why are they asking.
