+1 to all the other comments about carry anyway. Rain won't hurt it, just clean it out thoroughly. I went swimming once (hot spring, actually) with my Rossi stainless revolver because there was no way to safely do anything else with it. When I got back to my room, I just blasted it out with a can of Gunscrubber or something similar, lightly oiled it, and was happy.

ummm... well standing around getting soaked is never my idea, but occasionally the job does require it and today seemed like the probability was high. The job also prevents a hasty return to the house for a quick dis-assembly and lube. I didn't like leaving it behind today but I couldn't shake the visions of a good eeeaaarrrlllyyy morning soaking, followed by a slow miserable day-long dry out, ending with a terrible case of swamp *** and a rusty gun (neither of which actually happened today thankfully )The Annoyed Man wrote:No. For one thing, I don't stand around and let myself get soaked. For another, water won't kill your gun. You just have to make sure to dry it off and re-lube it when you get home.rescuetech wrote:Do you all leave the pistola at the la casa when it rains?
I floated the question because today was the first time I've left home without carrying since getting my plastic and it was also the day we had some major flooding. Definitely a strange day all around glad its almost over.

Reminds me of the Gilligan's Island where the Japanese soldier (Vito Scotti) recovers from falling in the lagoon to fire his pistol and water comes dribbling out.

do you leave your cell phone at home when it rains? unless it was open carry I dont see you getting near enough water on it to matter.rescuetech wrote:I got up this morning, after a bright and noisy night, to the welcome sight of continued rain. As I dressed for work I left my Bodyguard .380 in the safe not wanting to run the risk of a soggy sidearm and I have felt naked all day.

Work does on occasion keep me in the elements for long periods of time.

all of my pocket pistols would fit in a ziplock baggie.
I think I've done that once. If it gets soaked, all you need is a can of WD40. Pull the mag, unload the chamber, then hose down both mag and gun through the magwell, barrell and any other openings. Let it drip out. That will chase the water out until you have time to relube. The gun should be usable with a WD40 coating on it for a week or more.

Nice pistols. Do you have a gun dealer near RR that can help you get one at a good price?Matt78665 wrote:Glock around the Clock for now..........But I smell a new M&P .40 cal after income tax refund
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

When it's pouring, I wear a rain coat, or carry an umbrella so my EDC see's more moisture on a typical summer day (or spring or fall) than it ever does on a rainy day and sweat is way worse than a few rain drops.

Thats the same as a cop who would only wear his bullet proof vest on the days he thinks he may need it.... mine is always on me and I would never become a fair weather carrier..........

Kayaking/Swimming I take the Glock and a Stainless revolver and leave the others home.
Mainly because I'd sink with the others too.

Well, for one thing mine is normally very well concealed under a shirt or jacket, so I don't normally get all that wet. I usually carry a Glock, so it's something I've never really worried about, although sometimes I carry an SP101 or a nickel Chief Special. I guess if they got wet, I'd just have to clean them later.
Having said that, since I'm retired Army, I've carried weapons of all sorts in rain, mud, dust, dirt, rice paddies, snow etc. I would never even consider leaving my weapon (usually an old 1911) in my tent for fear of it getting wet (also, we were never given the choice of leaving it behind). Perhaps I could have told the Viet Cong that it was getting wet, so please don't shoot 'cause I left my pistol at the camp.
Sorry for being cynical, but it's a question that I've never even thought about before. That's probably why the armorer made us clean the damn things every day!

If that is a concern, why not get what the SEALs use, Sig P226 Navy? A gun that is reliable after a >5 mile underwater swim in salt water ought to be able to handle a little rain, wouldn't you think? If it's good enough for those guys, it ought to be good enough for us, right?
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

I wish my cute neighbor would.
Oh guns. Right. I would worry more about a duck hunting shotgun rusting than I would about a handgun that's covered by clothes. Especially this time of year when it's chilly enough to wear a light water resistant jacket outside.

Re: Does anyone esle go out naked in the rain?
I have No allegiance to any type platform or manufacturer. Our guns and carry weapons are just tools to us. We want them to go bang everytime. Reliability, sweat, dirt and rain are the main reasons my wife and I carry Glocks. My EDC is a G-26. We live in Houston and walk/jog daily and guns are soaked in sweat and rain regularly- it's No Wahalla. We also do yard work and gardening while carrying and again that is one of the reasons we carry Glocks.
My wife does carry S&W model 642's a lot of the time She has several different 38's to select from - but she is also a lady Glockaholic....
The Glocks go bang. I have Kimbers, Berrattas, Colts, Brownings, Rugers, and I carry one of the Glocks - of which we have too many according to the wife...
