Not enough facts to make a real determination of what really happened. I do know that if I came home and my 13 year old daughter was in the house with a 27 year old man, my temper would get the better of me. I would protect me and mine with the same force this dad used. I see it as one less sexual predator off the streets and that is a good thing. Sorry if that sounds cold, but I doubt our courts would do anything to this guy. The thing I would have done different was go in the front door with gun drawn as if it was a home invasion but I carry and the dad apparently had to retrieve his weapon.
Granted the 13 year old may have played a big role in getting the guys into the house, but they are the adults and they are the responsible ones in this encounter. What the 13 year old did is irrelevant in my opinion, she is a child and the adults are responsible for their actions.
The dad leaving the scene was a bad thing, but that may be what allows him to plead down to just leaving the scene of the crime and walk on any other charges.

In the case being discussed, if the man had been having sex with a 13 year old girl, it is by legal definition sexual assault, and is the same crime as if he had held a 21 year old down against her will.
Actually, I believe this would be Aggravated Sexual Assault due to the victim being younger than 14.

If she had been my daughter it would have been handled differently. The Internet predator/child rapist scumbag would have been sleeping with what fishes are left in the bottom of Galveston Bay.

I can't say that this guy handled it wisely, but I'm not exactly mourning the loss of a sexual predator.
For those of you that mentioned the possibility of her claiming to be 18, I just don't buy it. I teach this age group, and rarely do I meet one that could pass for 18. On that rare occasion that they do, they're behaviors usually give them away soon thereafter.

I believe that men making the "but she said she was 18" claim are either lying or ignoring the obvious. (Spend a little time with a group of 13-year-olds. The only person that would mistake this group for adults would be a person with the same mental age.)

As someone else mentioned, pedophilia is rampant in our world, as evidenced by western men visiting brothels in Asia filled with little girls.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Spend some time with college girls; there are plenty of them that still act like early teens. Unfortunately, I could see some guy thinking he had one of those, though I couldn't imagine the ruse lasting more than a few days without some serious effort on her part.

The way the law is enforced nowadays, if I were a young adult with that sort of inclination, I would want to see ID. (I am not endorsing premarital sex, but it happens.)

Most of these guys meet girls online while the guy is pretending to be a teenager. They have no excuse at all.
